June 19th, 1928
ROLL CALL:. The council met in regular session with following members Pres-
ent: Councilmen Mmrtx Hays,' ItilcGee, (;.H.Smith and lilayde (Davis and Pyles arriving later.
In the absence of Elayor Gray, I`:-Tayor Pro Tom C. H. Smith presided.

CLAIT:iS AGAINST C;URFRE T4 EXPENSE AM WATER FUNDS: Following claims against
Current Expense and Mater Fund were read and motion made by Hays, seconded by McGee,
that claims be allowed and warrants be drawn for the same; upon -roll call, all voted for
the motion. Some discussion came up relatiee to claim of L. Newlun, pumper, against
Water .'land and it was the understanding that if Newlun worked the balance of the month
and regular pumper was granted a vacation, that the warrant in his favor was not to be
issued: if he did no further work, however, warrant was to be made out. - (bee minutes below).

claiming sewers were not large enough to carry off the water; motion made by P;IcGee,
seconded by Hays, that the matter be referred to -the Street 8� Alley Committee with instructions
to report at the next meeting; carried.
TIM STATE !"TILL OIL STATE ROAD Noll (FOURTH STREET) from Pasco to Eltopia
according to a letter read from S. J. Humes; State Highway Engineer. In his letter, h4x.
runes stated that the state would oil an 18 ft. strip in the road, but if the city desired
to oil the full v'Jidth of the street from the end of the pavement northerly passing the
city park, the state will apply the oil to the e7.tra width if the city will pay for the
additional expense of the oil:, applying the same and the necessary blading; no charge could be
made by the state for the use of its equipment. 'Motion made by Hays, seconded by F_cGee,
that the matter be referred . to the Street & Alley Committee with authority to act; motion carried.
E. !?r. LANDT ADVISED TIM COUNCIL THAT FOR 4;110.00 per year, per man, insurance
could be issued to cover accidents to members of the Mire Dept. I.Iotion made by ikficGee, seconded
by Hays, that -the matter be referred to the fire Committee to investigate and report next meeting.
Motion carried.
INTEREST ITS L.I.D.ITo. 27 clue to the Puget Socand I:Iortgage Co. Letter from City
Treasurer read relative to interest due Paget Sound 110-rtgage Co-, for bonds in L.I.D.No.27,
stating that the Ebove people owned all. bonds outstanding in that district, that interest
on remaining bonds in district amounted to ,<�2240.00; while she had X571.83 cash on hand in
this district and that the Puget Sound Kortgage Co. was willing to naive the balance of the
year's interest amounting to 81668.17. While no regular motion was made, by common consent
action on this matter was deferred. Cantil the next regular meeting, so that the opinion, of the
city attorney could 'be secured regarding the matter.

MYOR GRAY ADVISED THAT HE HLID APPOIFTED M. J. BAILEY as patrolman in lieu of
I. - . Hays, resigned; motion made by l:icGoe, seconded by hays, that consideration of this
appointn.ent be deferred until the next 'regu.lar meeting to come up under the headof
"unfinished business"; motion carried.
U. B. SHOEiLA_,K-E'R WAS DESIGNABED AS CHIEF OF POLICE in a letter from 1—Tayor Gray;
motion made by Hays, seconded by uayde, that consideration Of the appointment be carried
over until the next regular meeting for investigation; motion carried.
COUNCILlit', T DAVIS ENTERED AND WAS I@i!R=D AS BEING PRESENT.
J.C.Wade license: J.C.!"lade protested against paying a license for selling
fruit and vegetables; motion made by i:IcGee,' seconded by i'/ayde, that the matter be referred to
committee on licenses for investigation; motion carried.
Councilman tyles was excused: and left the meeting.
LICENSES were granted to following upon motion made by McGee, seconded by Hays,
and roll call developing unanimous vote for the motion: A. P. Sylvester; P. V. 1"itzpatrich;
G. T Austin; ci. P. Chute; �;. H. 1,oberly, pool halls; T_Llabel Coleman, rooming house; I:Iary
L. Hubert, -restaurant.
Report of ',later Llanager for Imlay, showing not profits of 8641.58, was read;
motion made by Hays, seconded by Kcuee, that report be accepted and placed on file; carried.
Report of uity ule-r"k, for Iiay in typed fohm was furnished to councilmen; report
of city treasurer was passed around. Clerk reported on Sylvester Park Trust wund, showing
J'277.10 spent to date, leaving a balance on 'nand of X1399.45.; motion made by Hays, seconded by
Wayde that this report be accepted and placed on file; motion carried.
HAYLETT FOR POLICE UUDGE : Smith -reported that Hr. Haylett had informed the
Police uomittee that he would not accept the position under any consideration; motion made
by McGee, seconded by Hays, that the appointr.ent be rejected; roll call ordered and sho:?ed all
voting for the motion.
DOG LICENSES: Chief Taylor advised the council that onlly a few of the dogs
in the city had been assessed; motion made by !McGee, seconded by tayde, that the matter be turned
over to the Judiciary Committee for investigation and 'report at the next meeting; motion carried.
PU1PERIS VACATION: The proposition of granting the pumper ten dayis vacation
with pay was again referred to., it being stated that he was willing to take a vacation noir while
extra pumper was available; motion made by McGee, seconded by Hays that the matter be referred to
the !"later Committee with power.and authority to act; motion carried.
