11INUTES OF !METING HELD JANUARY 17th, were read and approved.
Opinion of City Attorney regarding signature -6f auditing combiittdd ' on
bills and claims: Anumber of the claims presented to the council had --been OK'c
and signed by only one' member *of the auditing committee on account of other members
of the committee being absent; the question.- was raised whther .the .council could
legally pay such bills -without their having the certification of a majority of -the
committee. City Attorney Swanner being present, gave the opinion- that as long as
the"bills had been checked and OK'd by one -member of the comittee, the council could
legally order them paid, as -the council was the final judge as to whether bills were
prop6rz and should be paid or not. -The bills were thereupon read with the others and
o-rdefed paid, as shown below:

BILLS FOR LIGHTS AT TOURIST PYRK: A commiuiication was read from the Park
Board strongly urging that bills for light in the caretaker's house at the Tourist
Park be paid; after discussion motion was made by Pyles, seconded by Wayde, that the
bill be paid-;- upon. -roll call, all voted for the motion. -

Hubbard; motion was made by Pyles, seconded by Smiththat the license be granted
provided that the rink is not operated on Sunday—.; upon roll call, all voted in favor
of the motion...
ASSESS!,. -ENT ROLL COVERING CONCRETE %7ALK ON COLUMBIA STREET and providing
for ail dssesment of 428.75 per 25 ft. lot was brought up purpuant to published notice;
no objectors ap,-eared before the council and -a motion was made by Pyles, seconded by

REPORTS OF , OFFICERS : Report of Police ' Judge cl.' E- Quinlan shovred receipts
of $�367 00 for January; - motion made 'by Co H. Sffith, seconded by Pyles', that the
report be accepted and placed on file; upon roll call, all voted for the motion.
-J ,11ATER`FOR SYLVESTER PARK- firs. Chute, chairman of the Parr Board', wrote
a8king that the council take -some action towards furnishing water for Sylvester Park.
Motion eras made by Pyles, seconded-by'Hays, that the coim-ahicat.ion be turned over to
the Water Committee for investigation; upon roll call, all voted in favor of the motion.

L.. F. BECITON HAVING PREVIOUSLY BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE POSITION OF -CHIEF OF
POLICE, motion was made by C. H. Smith, seconded by Hays, that the appointment'be
rejected; upon roll call being ordered, the motion carried by uranirlous vote.
