Mayor Gray vetoed- the ordinance by handing the, clerk' the following comm-anica_

of the City of. Pasco consigned and. I veto this proposed ordinance. for the reason that
the salary paid the present Street commissioner is ample and the City of Pasco can secure
an efficient man fair this work at the monthly sum of X135.00. I regret to be forced to!
veto this proposed ordinance but feel that my duty co apells me to do so."

LICENSE OF 1,MS. GEO. SPEARS TO OPERATE THE CUNNINGHAM HOTEL WAS REVOKED; both
Lir. and B±s. Spears had been served with formal notice to appear before the city council at
this meeting and show, cause why the license should not be revoked, but neither of them,'
nor a representative, appeared before the council. Chief of Police Taylor was syrorn
and on oath deposed and.said: "tin the 14th, we found liquor in Room No. 1; also in
another -room within ten feet of Room,Ilo. 1; there were two or three dozen empty whis'.y
flasks, while in other rooms there were empty jugs and flasks. In Room 41,' there were
three empty whiskey flasks in a dresser drayaer with a little liquor left in the bottom.
We also found empty jugs in other roofs- I have Jad complaints as to bootlegging in this
place and am satisfied that Mr. Spears was doing it. One time, a car with three men in it
stopped in front of the hotel and I trent to them and called their attention to the fact
that the lights on their car were not burning properly; they stated they would have then
fixed at once and drove away, returning shortly afterward, however and again stopping in
front oz the hotel; one of them gent into the hotel and'saw Spears and Spears gave him
something and the man came out; the man was under the influence of liquor at the -time
but 1 did not arrest him; ai•.I wanted to get the man who was selling him the stuff. At the
time the man was in the hotel, 1 was across the street and could•see what was going on,- as
light in the building was just right to enable me to see properly."
Motion was thereupon made by Davis,' seconded by 0. H. Smith, that in view of
the Chief's evidence and the fact that these people did not appear to.defena themselves,
that their license to operate the Cunnin'ham Hotel be revoked:; the mayor.ordered a roll
call. and all voted in favor of the motion.
