ROLL CALL: The council met in regular session with follotring members
present: 11ayor Gray, Councilmen Davis, Hays, McGee, Pyles; C. H. Smith o.nd Wayde.

Matter of better lights was brought up by IIa.yor Gray and Councilman Davis
stated that the P. P. & L. Co. were ready to install a better system of lighting
which would be controlled from their power house as soon as the city was financially
able to rake needed replacements to the present system.

Chairman W. F. Chute wrote the council asking that Geo. Sanderson be ap-
pointed as a member of the board vice G. 'ff. Nelson, resigned, for the term ending
Dec. 31st, 1928. 1Ir. Sanderson was thereupon appointed by the Mayor to the
vacancy and motion was Dade by 1°Tayde,. seconded by I.1cGee, that the appointment be
confirmed was carried by a unanimous vote. .
LICENSE APPLICATIONS: License applications were read from the folloFrin�:
Frank Hays, 2 taxis; ;'T. D. Pence, hotel, restaurant and soft drinks; L. A. Schune_
manx dray; 1W. D. Peck, soft drinks at the Cozey Cafe; 0. King, restaurant; motion
made by Pyles, seconded by C. H. Smith, that the licenses be granted; upon roll call
all voted for the motion.
License for I�Ics. Geo. Spears to operate the Cunningham Hotel was brought
before the council for discustion; motion made by C. H. Smith; seconded by 1-,1c Gee
that the limense be granted; upon roll call all voted for the notion.
REPORTS OF CO1.11ITTEES : Police Committee reported "progress" in drawing
up new traffic ordinance.
Public Building Committee stated they would have necessary valves placed
in radiators of the city hall in the near future.
Light Committee reported that the pole at Sixth & Columbia had been moved.
Finance Committee reported, thru 1,7ayde and Davis, that'in the matter of
salary increase for the Street Commissioner,; they felt nothing could be done at present
in view of the fact that the budget called for his present salary but that when prepar-
ing the budget for 1928, this matter should be considered. City Attor ney stated that
as the salary was fixed by ordinance it would take another ordinance to repeal the
section -fixing the street commissioner's salary. notion then made by McGee, seconded
by Hays, that the committee be granted another year to consider the question. Neon
roll call the motion lost four to two as follows: Ayes, 11cGee and Hays; Noes, Davis,
Pyles; C. H. Smith and Viayde. Davis then stated that the cormittee were in favor of
raising the rate effective January lst and providing for it in the budget. Motion
was then made by Davis, seconded by Pyles, that the matter be laid upon the table until
the next regular ,meeting at which time they would have a copy of the tentative budget.
Upon roll call, all voted for the motion.
Street & Alley Committee were not yet ready to make a report on sewer
extension requested by D. F. Rod.--ey, South of A Strcet and Gest of Fourth Street.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS: Report of treasurer was passed around; report
of clergy{ in typed foram was passed to each member of the council.
Street Commissioner Clayton klmtx stated that he had put in about 350 ft.
of cinders on Nixon St. to replace the worn out walk.
Report from dater ITianager 11oretz showed gross earnings for the previous
month of -N3947.65;' ex-penses 41379.55, interest on bonds $750.00, leaving net earnings
of $1818.00.

Committee reported that his co-nLmittee had run up against a puzzle in the matter of
more water being pumped in 1926 than in the same months of 1927 ,tnd that the difference
was so big that they were trying to run down the cause. The figures indicated by the
flow meter ;homed the following quatities of water pumped:

M. J. Ainey as Chief of Police; motion made by McGee, seconded by Hays that the ap_
pointment be confirmed; ' motion- lost on roll call four ' to tNo as fol7_67-7s : Ayes, Hays
and 14cGee; Noes, Davis, Pyles, C. H. Smith and +iayde.
COAL BIDS OPEITED: Two bids were received for coal for the winter in answer
to bid in the local paper; as follows:
Kleeb Lby. Co., 6:75 per ton delivered, August price
a ° " 11 7.25 ." " " September price.
Tum_A_Lum Lbr. Co., 7.00 per ton delivered.
Motion was thereupon .made by C. H. Smith, seconded by McGee, that the bid
of the Kleeb Lbr. Co. at 6.'75 per ton delivered being the lowest, an order be placed
with ?rl.eeb's for one car of Roslyn ITTI coc.l (mine,run) and that Kleeb's must furnisheo
public scale weights on the coal delivered. Upon roll call, all voted for the motion.
WATER RATE FOR A. LI. HAYLETT: A. 1.1. Haylett addressed the council asking
that a lower viater rate be applied to his place of business and residence, stating
that he felt he was entitled to the domestic rate. After discussion, w6ausKmmmU
1;IcGee moved and Hays seconded, that the matter be referred to the Water Committee

for Investigation•and report at the. next regular, muting. Upon roll call all voted.for the
motion excepting Davis, who voted "No". Motion carried five to one.
THEATRE LICENSE: E. J. Reynolds appeared before the council and asked
that the license rate for theatres be reduced as his theatre was losing money. Motion
vvas then made by• I:1cGee:; seconded by Hays, 'that the m<:.tter .be referred to the Police
and License Committee, who should confer with Mr. Reynolds and mane a report at the
next regular meeting. Upon, roll call,, all voted for the motion.
COLUMBIA STREET SIDEVALK: The new sidewalk on Columbia Street was
discussed and Street Superintendent informally instructed to go ahead rTith its con-
struction in accordance with the previous action and resolutions covering.
ADJOu"ItI BNT : Motion made by Hays, seconded by McGee, that the meeting
adjourn. Carried.
