PARK & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
June 5, 2014
CALL TO ORDER:
Tom called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.
Board Members Present: Lauren Wang
Tom Davenport - Chairperson Robert Garcia

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
Motion was made by Arthur and seconded by Abigail to approve the minutes of the May 1,
2014 meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
STAFF REPORTS:
Recreation
• Softball: 40 teams playing in the Adult softball program, 12 youth teams and hosted 3
tournaments during the month of May (2 Youth & 1 Adult)
• Mini-Kicker’s Soccer – full with 10 kids
• Lifeguard Training – full with 16 kids
• Stars on Ice – 21 participants
• Many partnership programs starting in June including the Geocoin Challenge.
• After School Program – We have seen an increase in the program numbers due to the
snack program
Senior Center
• Attended the annual Hapo Community Credit Union press conference. The City was a
recipient of their Summer Sponsorship Program – We received $5000.00 for the Grand
Old 4th Parade
• Foot Care numbers are very strong, as well as the donations
• Attended the CBC Wellness Fair on Wednesday, May 28 and provided Recreation
information to staff and students
• We hosted an In Door Yard Sale on May 31, with about 11 vendors and 53 attendees
• We resumed the Enhance Fitness program after several months absence

Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
Park & Facility Projects
• Burned tumbleweeds
• Uplifted trees
• Prepared Memorial Pool for the season
• Aerated parks and athletic fields
• Planted annual beds
• Both pumps went down at Chiawana
• Pump went down at Memorial 3 times
• New irrigation pump sucked sand into city system, had to flush lines and nozzles
• Repaired west boat dock at Chiawana Park
• Opened splash pad at Softball Complex
• Repaired fence at Liberty Park 3 times
• Removed graffiti
• Installed VFD at Kurtzman Park
• Irrigation repairs: 5 mainline, 4 valve and 2 lateral repairs and installed 2 clocks
Cemetery
• Preformed 9 funerals; 5 burials and 4 cremations
• Completed 3 pre-need contract, installed 9 headstones
• Memorial Day (LDS, Legion)
Special Events
• Kurtzman splash pad opened
• Community Garden opened
• Boys & Girls Club planted beds at Library (3 trees and 4 planter beds)
OTHER:
• Rick informed the board of the City Council Goals for 2014-2015 concerning the Senior
Center and Park Plan
• Rick noted Kurtzman Spray Park in open
• Rick reported on the progress of Three Rivers Park
• Rick noted the Community Garden Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be on June 28
• Board discussed implementing Season Passes at Memorial Pool next summer
• July meeting cancelled due to the 4th of July Holiday.
