HomeMy WebLinkAbout08.01.13 Park Board MinutesPARK & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES August 1, 2013 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Abigail Kidd, Chairperson. Board Members Present: Jennifer Martinez Tom Davenport Arthur Job Craig Howell Jason Ruud Abigail Kidd Robert Garcia Staff Present: Rick Terway, Director A &CS, Dan Dotta, Facilities Manager and Nolan Harper, Lead Recreation Specialist. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Motion was made by Robert and seconded by Jason to approve the minutes of the June 6, 2013 meeting. Motion carried unanimously. STAFF REPORTS: Recreation • Record breaking year for softball tournaments: 14 completed and 5 to be played in August /September. 13 are scheduled for 2014. • Musical First Steps (Ages 0 -5) so successful we have added a Thursday session. • "I Can" program for girls 7 -10 concluded with a graduation ceremony and performance. • Update on After School Program. • Update on upcoming programs and classes. Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Filled Groundsman II position, Pam Brownlee • Groundsman returned from L &I since May 1st Park & Facility Projects • Burned tumbleweeds • Prepared Memorial for 4t" July parade • Assisted Recreation with the fireworks 1 • Mowed vacant City owned lots • Painted 36 Soccer fields • Maintained landscaping for HUD homes for Community Development • Repaired HUD homes • Irrigation repairs: 6 mainline, 8 lateral, 6 valves Cemetery • Preformed 8 funerals; 6 burials and 2 cremations • Completed 1 pre -need contract, installed 3 stones Special Events • Hosted Chanel Cats swim meet • Prepared Softball Complex for MSA picnic • Assisted Recreation with 3 softball tournaments and Men and Women's league • Assisted the Water Follies with Boat Races OTHER: Kurtzman Spray Park: • Rick explained the State has not yet approved the method of spray water disposal. Road 60 and Three Rivers Drive Park /School Project: • The school and park are currently in the planning stages. Fence Issue with School Parks • Council and staff discussed the placement of the fences the school district wants to place around the schools and adjacent city parks. Memorial Park Playground: • New playground will be installed in September. Rick explained the grant and the benefit of pour in place vs. softfall. Memorial Park Kiwanis Shelter Dedication on August 15: • Rick asked Council if they will be able to attend. Tour of City Parks: • Rick suggested a van tour of city parks for the next meeting. Council concurred. The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. 2
