MINUTES
June 6, 2013
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Abigail Kidd, Chairperson.

Staff Present: Rick Terway, Director A &CS, Dan Dotta, Facilities Manager and Carleen Hanscom,
Recreation Services Manager.
Guest: Roberto Garcia
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
Motion was made by Tom and seconded by Edmon to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2013
meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION:
Jennifer, Arthur, Craig and Jason were introduced. Board members and staff shared a little
about their background.
Rick explained the role of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
STAFF REPORTS:
Recreation
• Memorial Pool opens Saturday June 8th
• Hired approximately 60 new staff for the pool
• Lifeguard and WSI classes are full
• GeoCoin Challenge is coming up on June 29 -30th
• Update on After School Program

Senior Center
• Raised $10,500 in sponsorship for the Grand Old 4th
• Raised $3,000 in sponsorship for the All Senior Picnic on September 19th
Maintenance
Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
Park & Facility Projects
• Burned tumbleweeds
• Prepared Memorial Pool for the season
• Prepared parking lot at Memorial Pool for striping
• Installed new bench swing at Wade Park
• Mowed vacant City owned lots
• Painted 36 Soccer fields
• Installed new safety helmet signs along bike path
• Started Memorial Pool for the season
• Repaired outfield lights at Walters Field
• Installed new trash containers in the parks and downtown
• Irrigation repairs: 7 mainline, 8 lateral, 4 valves
Cemetery
• Built new Urn Garden Area
• Prepared for Memorial Day
• Planted 6 trees
• Performed 6 funerals; 4 burials and 2 cremations
• Completed 1 pre -need contract, installed stones
Special Events
• Held tree planting class for kindergarten class at Robinson Elementary School
• Contractor painted parking lot at Memorial Pool
• Assisted Recreation with 3 softball tournaments and 1 baseball
OTHER:
Kurtzman Spray Park:
Rick shared a drawing of the new spray park and discussed the cost and the project
schedule.

Regional Aquatics Facility:
Board and staff discussed the August 6 vote on the aquatics facility. Rick shared some pros
and cons of the facility and noted a design of the facility will be available soon.
Park Ranger Program:
Rick shared that the Park Ranger program during the summer is funded by the public safety
tax.
Tall Ships Event:
Rick reminded everyone the Tall Ships are at the Boat Basin Marina this weekend.
Cancellation of July 4 Meeting:
Arthur moved to cancel the July meeting and Edmon seconded. Motion carried
unanimously.
