HomeMy WebLinkAbout11.08.12 Park Board MinutesPARK & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES NOVEMBER 8, 2012 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. Board Members Present: Tom Davenport Mike Matthews Edmon Daniels Jim Michaud Richard Brandt Abigail Kidd Saul Martinez —Council Liaison Staff Present: Rick Terway, Director A &CS Carleen Hanscom, Recreation Services Manager Dan Dotta, Facilities Services Manager MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Edmon moved to approve the minutes of the September 6, 2012 meeting. Tom seconded. Motion carried unanimously. STAFF REPORTS: Recreation • Fall Hayrides had 83 people • Cable Bridge Run already has over 200 registered and 2 businesses at the vendor tradeshow. Signing up Volunteers now • After School Program currently has 79 registered • Musical First Steps - 15 registered • First Gluten Free baking class had 6 people participating • Just finished our annual Volleyball Clinic with 39 youth participating • To date we have 168 registered in our upcoming Youth basketball league • Winter recreation guide goes to print soon; comes out Dec 4, registration starts Dec 11 • Floor refinishing starts Nov 19 — all three facilities • Aquatics trip with City of Richland and Kennewick to Pullman to evaluate their learn to swim program • A High School Senior is going to paint a mural for our after school program as their senior project • Just completed WA State Cross Country event with Pasco High School • Recreation Departments from Pasco, Kennewick and Richland won the best booth display at the annual TCVCB trade show. Senior Center • We are taking reservations for our Annual Yokes Holiday Dinner December 13 at 5pm — 97 registered as of today • The Change Your Time /Change Your Batteries Program Ends tomorrow Nov 9 • There will be no Meals on Wheels served on the following days November 12, 22, 23 • The new HVAC Unit for the south side Multi- Purpose Room should be completed by Friday, Nov 9 • Enhance fitness had 59 registered this fall • Discussed Foot Care statistics Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Attended herbicide training with local vendor • Flagger certification Park & Facility Projects • Planted 45 new trees throughout town • Removed five dead trees at Riverview Park • Shut down irrigation systems • Removed swings, tables and portable restrooms for the season • Closed Chiawana • Removed the shade cloth at the Softball Complex • Winterized Dust Devil's Stadium • Repaired roofs at Library and Senior Center • Irrigation repairs: 7 mainline, 3 lateral, 1 valves Cemetery • Preformed 4 funerals; 2 burials and 2 cremations • Completed 1 pre -need contract • Planted winter stock Special Events • Assisted PD with training setup and tear down OTHER: Neighborhood Pool Meetings: Park Board and staff discussed the attached memo reviewing the Neighborhood Pool meetings held in October. MOTION: Abigail moved to recommend spray parks to replace neighborhood pools and additional spray parks in the future as funding becomes available. Tom seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Agenda format: Board agreed to continue using the current agenda format BOARD MEMBERS SUGGESTIONS & REPORTS: Saul noted downtown business owners are happy with the improvements that Lowe's volunteers made to Peanuts Park. Tom commented on the 6 new dog waste stations in the parks. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
