HomeMy WebLinkAbout09.06.12 Park Board MinutesPARK & RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES September 6, 2012 In attendance: Joel Nimmo Edmon Daniels Mike Matthews Duane Taber Abigail Kidd Saul Martinez — Council Liaison Staff: Rick Terway, Director A &CS; Carleen Hanscom, Recreation Services Manager and Dan Dotta, Facilities Services Manager. Senior Services Advisory Committee: Jim Michaud, Richard Brandt and Tom Larsen, City Council Liaison. Guests: Arthur Job. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Edmon moved to approve the minutes of the August 2, 2012 meeting. Joel seconded. Motion carried unanimously. STAFF REPORTS Recreation • Adult Flag Football started this week with 24 teams and 4 on the waitlist • After School Program started and we are producing a flyer to go out to the elementary and middle schools near City Hall • Finished design work for Cable Bridge Run 2012, will have posters and registration forms printed by Oct 1 • New beading classes, Garden Bracelet and Earring Bonanza are filling up • New Wavemakers class very popular, it filled up, so we added a second • Golf lessons, especially for Juniors have continued to be very popular • Chiawana Tennis Courts — PSD request to have drop in program if they pay for lights Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings Park & Facility Projects • Pruned shrubs along levy • Closed pools for the season • Kurtzman Pool closed due to vandalism • Installed new carpet at Bus Train Depot • Installed soil conditioner on three fields at Softball Complex • Painted soccer(4) and football fields(6) • Irrigation repairs: 6 mainline, 3 lateral, 2 valves Cemetery • Preformed 6 funerals; 4 burials and 2 cremations • Completed 5 pre -need contracts and installed 9 headstones • Sprayed growth regulator Special Events • Installed bollards at 20th Ave and A St trail head • Contractor replaced vandalized security lighting at Mercier Park • Removed tree and sidewalk on 4th and Clark due to hazardous conditions Other Combining Senior Services Advisory Committee with Parks and Recreation Advisory Council. Members of the Senior Services Advisory Committee were introduced. Members of both boards and staff discussed the option of combining the 2 boards. MOTION: Joel moved to recommend the two boards merge. Abby seconded. Motion carried. Kurtzman and Richardson Pool Neighborhood Meetings. Rick reported that City Council would like neighbors to have input on the future of the neighborhood pools. MOTION: Duane moved to hold neighborhood meetings on October 4th & 11th. Edmon seconded. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
