HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.07.12 Park Board MinutesPARK & RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES June 7, 2012 In attendance: Joel Nimmo Edmon Daniels Tom Davenport Duane Taber Saul Martinez Staff: Rick Terway, Director A &CS; Carleen Hanscom, Recreation Services Manager and Dan Dotta, Facilities Services Manager. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Edmon moved to approve the minutes of the May 3, 2012 meeting. Joel seconded. Motion carried unanimously. STAFF REPORTS Recreation • All three pools open June 9. • Our first Lifeguard Training Class was full and all passed • Second Lifeguard Training Class is full and starts next week • Orientation for all aquatics staff is this week. • Hosted the Channel Cats swim meet this past weekend. They had 520+ entries, a record. They are looking at extending the meet in 2013 to be 3 full days instead of 2 full and 1 half to meet the demands to compete at our pool • Summer Swim Teams are almost full with only 12 spots open, 138 are already signed up. • Summer Swim Training without competing has become very popular and we have 45 signed up for this. We have more demand but no space at this time • Concessionaire was selected for Memorial Pool and we are working to finalize the contract now for 2012 summer • Grand Old 4t" Posters and Rack Cards are here and they are being distributed to the community now • First year that we have sponsors providing actual cash instead of just in -kind sponsorship. Hapo is a Title Sponsor for the parade and Apollo is a Contributing Sponsor for the event • Kayak Tours and Dinner - 3 out of 4 are full with waiting lists • Kayaking and Ropes Course is full with a waiting list • Geocache Hike is full • 2 of 3 Kayaking Clinics are full • Basketball camps are starting to fill up but still have space • Tri- Cities Geocoin Challenge coming up on June 22 -24 is getting some great press and the geocoins for this event came in and look amazing! There are 30 total geocaches for this event, 10 in each city. This is sure to be a great community /family event! • New classes in June: Selling your Home 101 and Marketing and Staging your Home • First 2 tennis camps are full • We had to add 2 junior golf classes in June to handle the demand • New Bulldog Mighty Mites Football Camp is almost full at 16 people • Chess Camp returned this year and has a total of 5 currently registered • Staff is currently working on the Fall 2012 Recreation guide production Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Attended free pesticide training from Franklin County Noxious Weed Board Park & Facility Projects • Filled Memorial Pool • Painted soccer fields • Aerated 68 Soccer fields and Rd 108 WTP • Installed shelves for sound system at Senior Center • Connected services to new restroom at Chiawana Park • Cleaned vacant lots, sidewalks and buildings in downtown area • Irrigation repairs: 6 mainline, 8 lateral, 3 valves Cemetery • Preformed 8 funerals; 5 burials and 3 cremations • Completed 3 pre -need contracts and installed 4 headstones • Prepared for Memorial Day • Planted Locust tree • Completed water feature • Planted spring stock • Replaced bark around trees and veteran's memorial • Transplanted bushes along fence behind the Angel Garden Special Events • Assisted Recreation with three softball tournaments, baseball tournament, men and woman's league and finished school games • Prepared for swim meet • Contractor installed new restroom at Chiawana Park • Sheet rocked, painted, installed new flooring and hung cabinets for Waste Water Director • Discussed Memorial Pool and Kiwanis shelters • Will be meeting with the consultant evaluating Richardson and Kurtzman pools Other Softball Complex Rules Signs: MOTION: Tom moved to post the rules signs with required changes. Edmond seconded. Approved unanimously. Mr. Taber suggested canceling the July 5t" meeting. Council concurred. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
