MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
Mike moved to approve the minutes of the April 5, 2012 meeting. Edmon seconded. Motion
carried unanimously.
STAFF REPORTS
Recreation
• Summer programs are already starting to fill up
• Both swim teams have 30 signed up
• May lifeguard training is already full
• First Tennis Camp is half full
• Kayak Tours are all about half full
• Enhance Fitness has 18 so far
• The first Adult and junior golf lessons are also almost full
• An RFP for a Memorial Pool Concessionaire was released this week
• Fireworks contract is finalized for the Grand Old 4th event
• Handed out a demographics summary for Jan -Apr programs and another for May -Aug
programs to date. This summary shows:
• how many people registered
• # of males vs females
• # of online vs in- person registrations
• # of resident vs non - resident registrations
Maintenance
Personnel Activity
• Attended Monthly Safety Meetings
• Attended CPR /First Aid Class
Park & Facility Projects
• Initiated irrigation for the season
• Painted soccer fields
• Airwayed softball, 68 and 36 soccer fields
• Installed tennis nets for the season
• Installed basketball nets for the season
• Replaced flag pole ropes at Chiawana and Downtown Post Office
• Re- lamped Station 81, Bus /Train, Animal Control and Union Hall
• Installed light shields for BSFN signal light
• Electrical repair at Softball Complex
• Replace slides at Sylvester and Heritage Parks
• Memorial Pool upgrades
• Clean up downed limbs and tree from wind storm
• Tied domestic water into house and shop at Chiawana
• Irrigation repairs: 3 mainline, 7 lateral, 3 valves
Cemetery
• Preformed 6 funerals; 2 burials and 4 cremations
• Completed 2 pre -need contracts and installed 7 headstones
• Planted spring flower stock
Special Events
• Assisted Recreation with two softball tournaments, PHS games, St Pat's and Christ the
King softball and baseball games and practices
• Kiwanis planted two trees, painted three buildings and planted flowers at Memorial
Park
Director
• Informed Council of tentative approval from City Council on fees for rental of new
Memorial Park and pool shelters.
• Discussed restroom vandalism at Memorial Park.
• Discussed Capitol Park landscaping rock.
• Discussed Flag Day Ceremony at City View Cemetery.
Other
Duane asked about the USACE pesticide issue. A letter signed by the Mayors of the
three cities has been sent requesting a meeting.
