Pledge of Allegiance III. Approval of the August 9, 2011 meeting minutes. IV. ALTC program updates for August 2011. V. Senior Center highlights and discussion  On-going services, activities and classes o Free Foot Care for seniors continues to be offered at the Pasco Senior Center. Clients must be 60 years of age or older and reside in Franklin County or Burbank. An appointment is necessary and can be made by calling 545-3459. Donations are gladly accepted. o Dental Hygiene Services – Preventative services offered at reduced rates for anyone over the age of 60. Medicaid and Insurance is billed for services if applicable. All ages are welcomed. For an appointment call Marie McElderry, RDH, BS at 420-0884. o FREE Hearing Screening – this free service provided by Columbia Basin Hearing and Balance Center is now being conducted once per quarter. The next Hearing Screening is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13th beginning at 11:30 am. In addition to the hearing screening, you can also have your hearing aids cleaned and a performance check-up performed. An appointment is necessary and can be made by calling 545-3459. o The Pasco Senior Center’s multi-purpose room is open Monday – Friday from 8 – 10 am for walking. 16 laps around the room are equal to approximately 1 mile. Can’t get here in the morning to walk? Give is a call and we’d be happy to let you walk at other times of the day if the room is available.  Upcoming events, activities and classes o Scrapbooking with “My Sister’s Projects” – Create a beautiful two page scrapbook layout. You will learn to document life through art and the fundamentals of basic scrapbooking design. Please bring 10 – 12 photographs, adhesive (tape runner & glue dots), 12 X 12 paper cutter, scissors and your creativity. Class is held at the Pasco Senior Center on Saturday, September 24th from 10 am – 12 pm. Registration is required by 9/16/2011. o Hawaiian Dance – Wednesday, September 28th from 1 – 4 pm at the Pasco Senior Center. Wear your grass skirts, Bermuda shorts, and Hawaiian shirts as you dance to live music provided by the Columbia River Dance Band. Cost is $5 per person at the door. o Parking Lot BBQ – Monday, October 3rd form 12 – 1 pm. We’ll be cooking up hamburgers and hotdogs complete with all the fixings. Cost is $5 per person. Reservations required by 9/30/2011. Register online at www.pascoparksandrec.com or at the Pasco Senior Center or Pasco Recreation Services Office. o Adult Golf Lessons will be offered at Sun Willows Golf Course on Wednesday, October 5 - 26. Lessons take place form 6 – 6:45 pm. Cost is $45 for city of Pasco Residents and $67 for non-residents. o Oktoberfest – Join us for a wonderful day trip to beautiful Leavenworth Washington and let us do the driving. Enjoy a host of different activities, including arts & crafts, live entertainment, German food and drinks, and much more! Trip fee includes roundtrip transportation to and from Leavenworth. Please bring additional funds for all the fun you’ll be having throughout the day. This trip takes place Saturday October 8th. We will leave the Pasco Senior Center parking lot at 7:45 am and return at approximately 10 pm. Registration is required by 9/30. Cost is $45 for City of Pasco residents and $68 for non- residents. o Homemade Christmas Cards – Come learn how to turn paper, ink and rubber stamps into your own hand-stamped cards. You will go home with 5 Christmas cards ready to impress your friends! Class takes place Tuesday, October 11th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Ruth Livingston Elementary. Cost is $10 for City of Pasco residents and $15 for non-residents. Registration is required by 10/7. o A new session of Co-Ed Step Aerobics begins October 24th and runs until December 14th. Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at the Pasco Senior Center. Cost is $13 for City of Pasco residents and $19 for non-residents. Registration is required at least 3 business days prior to the first day of class. o AARP Driver Safety Courses are scheduled for the following dates: October 5 & 6 November 2 & 3 December 7 & 8 Pre-registration is required. To register please call 545-3459. o Harvest Moon Ball – Celebrate the harvest and Halloween with your friends at the Pasco Senior Center. Join us Saturday, October 22nd from 7 – 10 pm. Wear your favorite costume or come as you are and dance to a great variety of music provided by Carmen and Dale. Cost is $5 per person. o Change Your Time, Change Your Batteries – The Pasco Fire Department and the Pasco Senior Center will be providing the Senior Citizens of Pasco with FREE installation of 9 volt batteries for your smoke detectors; we’ll even provide the batteries for you. In order to receive this FREE service, you must be a senior citizen residing within the Pasco City limits. Services take place Tuesdays and Thursday, November 1, 3, 8, and 10 from 9 am – 12 pm and Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, November 2, 4, 7, and 9 from 9 am – 4 pm. To schedule your appointment please call 545-3459. o Veteran’s Honors Dance – Celebrate those who have served our nation at the 2011 Veteran’s Honors dance on Wednesday, November 9th from 1 – 4 pm. Veterans are encouraged to wear any or all of their military uniforms. Live music provided by the Columbia River Dance Band. Cost is $5 per person. o Yoke’s Fresh Market Holiday Dinner – This FREE dinner for seniors and their immediate family members, takes place Thursday, December 8th from 5 – 7 pm at the Pasco Senior Center. Enjoy a traditional holiday dinner with all the fixings including dessert! Dinner will be served at 5 pm. Seating is limited to the first 250 people. Pre-registration is required and will be accepted beginning November 1st. We will take reservations until full and then a waitlist will be established. To register call 545-3459. o Breakfast with Santa – Saturday, December 10th from 8:30 – 10:30 am. Enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, ham, coffee, juice and hot chocolate. Kids will get the opportunity to visit with Santa. Don’t forget to bring your camera so you can get that special holiday photo to send with all your Christmas correspondence. Pre-registration by 12/9 is suggested. o Semi-Formal Christmas Dance – Enjoy an enchanted evening in our beautifully decorated hall. Dance to your favorite holiday music from the Columbia River Dance Band, and enjoy the company of other as we share the Holiday Spirit. Live music and Dancing begins at 1 pm and continues until 4 pm.
