Senior Center highlights and discussion  On-going services, activities and classes o Financial Advisory Hour & Dessert Social - Third Thursday of each month from 11 am. – 12 pm. FREE o Dental Hygiene Services – Preventative services offered at reduced rates for anyone over the age of 60. Medicaid and Insurance is billed for services if applicable. All ages are welcomed. For an appointment call Marie McElderry, RDH, BS at 420-0884. o FREE Hearing Screening – 3rd Tuesday of each month beginning at 11:30 am. In addition to the hearing screenings, you can also have your hearing aids cleaned and performance check-up performed. An appointment is necessary and can be made at the front desk or by calling 545-3459. o The Pasco Senior Center’s multi-purpose room is open Monday – Friday from 8 – 10 am for walking. 16 laps around the room are equal to approximately 1 mile. Can’t get here in the morning to walk? Give is a call and we’d be happy to let you walk at other times of the day if the room is available.  Upcoming events, activities and classes o Beautiful Fall Flowers (Design your own bouquet for any occasion): For adults and seniors. August 18th from 3 – 4 pm. $35R/52NR. Instructor will furnish supplies. Instructed by Luck Flowers of Pasco. o The 18th Annual All-Senior-Picnic will be held at the Richland Community Center in Howard Amon Park on the banks of the beautiful Columbia River. Enjoy entertainment, great food, prizes, vendor booths and much more. Cost is $5 per person if purchased in advance and $8 at the door. Buttons are on sale now and can be purchased at the Pasco and Kennewick Senior Centers or the Richland Community Center. For more information call 545-3459. The following activities are from the September – December brochure, available August 9th. Registration for these classes/activities begins August 16th. o A new session of Enhance Fitness begins September 2nd and runs through September 30th (no class 9/5). Cost is $23 for city of Pasco residents and $34 for non-residents. o A new session of Easy Does it Stretch and Tone begins September 7th and runs through September 28th. Cost is $13 for City of Pasco residents and $19 for non-residents. o Zumba: Join us for the Latin-inspired dance party that helps you have fun and burn calories. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursday, September 6 – 29 and again October 4 – 27, from 5:15 – 6 pm at the City Hall Activity Center (525 N. 3rd Ave.). Fee: $20R/$30NR. o Adult Golf Lessons will be offered at Sun Willows Golf Course, September 9 – 28 and again October 5 – 26 from 6 – 6:45 pm. Cost is $45 for city of Pasco Residents and $67 for non-residents. o AARP Driver Safety will again be offered at the Pasco Senior Center beginning in September. Session dates are as follows:  September 7 & 8  October 5 & 6  November 2 & 3  December 7 & 8 Classes are held from 9 am – 2 pm. Insurance discounts are available in most states upon completion of this course (consult your insurance agent for more details). Cost is $12 for AARP members (proof of membership is required) and $14 for non members. To register please call 545-3459. o Sewing with Marcy begins again September 19th and runs through December 12th. Classes are held Mondays from 10 am – 3 pm. Cost is $26 for City of Pasco residents and $39 for non-residents. Marcy will teach pattern fitting, alterations and much more. You may bring your own sewing machine or borrow one of ours (you will need to bring all other supplies). This popular class fills quickly so register early. All levels of sewers are welcomed. Register in person at the Pasco Senior Center, Pasco Recreation Services office or online at www.pascoparksandrec.com. o Flu shot clinic. The Benton Franklin District Health Department will be conducting a flu shot clinic at the Pasco Senior Center on Wednesday, September 7th from 8 am – 4 pm. Adult and pediatric doses will be available. More information will be made available in late August by calling the Health District at (509) 460-4200. Follow the prompts that lead to the Flu Information Hotline. o Scrapbooking with “My Sister’s Projects” – Join “My Sister’s Projects” in creating a beautiful two page scrapbook layout. You will learn to document life through art and the fundamentals of basic scrapbooking design. Please bring 10-12 photographs, adhesive (tape runner & glue dots), 12 X 12 paper cutter, scissors and your creativity. Class takes place Saturday, September 24th from 10 am - 12 pm. at the Pasco Senior Center. o Homemade Christmas Cards-Come learn how to turn paper, ink, and rubber stamps into your own hand-stamped cards. You will go home with 5 Christmas cards ready to impress your friends and family. This class takes place Tuesday, October 11th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Ruth Livingston Elementary (2515 Rd. 84) in Pasco. o The Pasco Senior Citizen’s Association will host several theme dances this fall. Cost for each is $5 per person. Join us for:  Hawaiian Dance - September 28th, 1-4 pm  Harvest Moon Ball – October 22nd, 7-10 pm  Veteran’s Honors Dance – November 9th, 1-4 pm  Semi-Formal Christmas Dance – December 14th, 1-4 pm o The annual Parking Lot BBQ will be held Monday, October 3rd from 12-1 pm. Cost is $5 per person. You may register in person at the Pasco Senior Center, Pasco Recreation Services Office or online at www.pascoparksandrec.com. No refunds will be issued for this event. If you are unable to attend you may transfer your reservation to another individual by calling the Pasco Senior Center at 545-3459. Reservations transfers will not be honored for those that do not contact our office. No reservation transfers will be taken the day of the event. o Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, Washington. Join us for a wonderful day trip to beautiful Leavenworth, Washington and let us do the driving. Enjoy a host of different activities, including arts & crafts, live entertainment, German food and drinks, and much more. Cost is $45 for City of Pasco residents and $68 for non-residents. Trip fee includes roundtrip transportation to and from Leavenworth. Please bring additional funds for all the fun you’ll be having throughout the day. This trip takes place Saturday, October 8th from 7:45 am – 10 pm. You must be 21 years of age or older to participate. Please register by September 30th. o The following activities will be offered in November and December or later.
