V. Senior Center highlights and discussion
On-going services and activities:
o Financial Advisory Hour & Dessert Social - Third Thursday of each
month from 11 am. – 12 pm. FREE
o Dental Hygiene Services – Preventative services offered at reduced rates
for anyone over the age of 60. Medicaid and Insurance is billed for
services if applicable. All ages are welcomed. For an appointment call
Marie McElderry, RDH, BS at 420-0884.
o FREE Hearing Screening – 3rd Tuesday of each month beginning at
11:30 am. In addition to the hearing screenings, you can also have your
hearing aid cleaned and performance check-up performed. An
appointment is necessary and can be made at the front desk or by calling
545-3459.
o A new session of Enhance Fitness began April 1
o A new session of Stretch & Tone began April 4.
o The AARP Driver Safety class scheduled for March 9 & 10 was canceled due
to lack of participation. Another class was held April 6th & 7th. Participation
numbers are not yet available.
o The last day of AARP Tax Aide at the Pasco Senior Center was held
Monday, April 11th. At this time totals for the program are not available.
o Wii Games for seniors continues to be available Monday – Friday from 8 am
– 5 pm. For more information please inquire at the front desk or call 545-
3459.
o Beginning in April, Wednesday afternoon dances will be held on the 2nd and
4th Wednesday of the month only. Dance times are still 1 – 4 pm. $5 at
the door.
Upcoming events
o The next session of Drawing with Jerre Raven begins April 27th and runs
until June 15th. Classes are held on Wednesday form 11 am – 2 pm. Fee:
$41R/$60NR
o The next AARP Driver Safety classes will be offered May 4th & 5th. Cost is
$12 for AARP members (proof of membership required) and $14 for non-
members. Register at the Pasco Senior Center front desk or call 545-3459.
o Fashion Flashback, a walk down fashion’s memory lane will be held on
Sunday, May 15th at 2 pm. This presentation is a FREE show put on by the
Pasco High School Fashion students. Snacks and beverages will be
provided by the Pasco High School Commercial Foods class.
o The Best of Broadway Presents: WICKED – The untold story of the
witches of Oz. Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Spokane. Cost is $130 for City
of Pasco residents and $195 for non-residents. This fee includes
transportation to and from the event, dinner and gratuities at Anthony’s
Homeport Restaurant and the Broadway tickets. Registration deadline is
April 15, 2011. For more information call 545-3456. This trip is almost
sold out. There are currently 5 tickets available.
o The spring and summer 2011 brochure is now available. There are lots of
new activities for all ages including:
Swing into Spring Dance: April 23rd, 7 – 10 pm. Music by Carmen
and Dale. $5/person at the door.
Puppy Smart 101: A training course for your puppy. Course
includes basic commands, dealing with behavioral issues, nutrition,
socializing and more. Graduation includes fun and games, goody bag,
picture and a diploma. Puppies must be between 0 and 6 months of
age and must be able to show proof of vaccination (humans must be
at least 10 years of age). Sorry, no aggressive dogs allowed.
Classes are held on Saturdays, May 7 – June 2 (no class 5/21) at
Chiawana Park House (2020 Rd. 88) from 10 – 11 am. Fee:
$64R/96NR
Dog Smart 101: A training course for your dog. Participants will
learn basic commands, dealing with behavioral issues, nutrition,
socializing and more. Graduation includes games, goody bag, picture,
and diploma. Dogs must be at least 6 months of age (humans must
be at least 10) and be able to show proof of vaccinations. Sorry, no
aggressive dogs allowed. Classes are held on Saturdays, May 7 –
June 2 (no class 5/21) at Chiawana Park House (2020 Rd. 88) from
11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Fee: $64R/$96NR.
Fashion Flashback: Sunday, May 15th at 2 pm. Sponsored by Pasco
High School fashion students. FREE!
Summer Art Camp (ages 6 to 16): June 20 – 23 from
4:30 –6 pm. $67R/$80NR.
Zumba: Join us during your lunch hour for the Latin-inspired dance
party that helps you have fun and burn calories. Classes are held on
Tuesdays and Thursday, June21 – July 14, or July 19 – August 11
from 12 – 12:45 pm at the City Hall Activity Center (525 N. 3rd Ave.).
Fee: $20R/$30NR.
“Mid Summer Nights” Dance: Saturday, June 25th from 7 – 10 pm.
Music provided by the Columbia River Dance Band. $5/person at the
door.
The Tiny Chef – Kids Cooking Class (ages 8 – 12): Wednesdays,
June 29 – July 27, 2011 from 4 – 6 pm. $85R/$127NR Chocolate
Making 101 with the Country Mercantile (for ages 7+): Three
separate sessions are being offered. June 29th, July 20th and August
10th. All session are held from 10 – 11:30 am at the Country
Mercantile. $7R/$10NR.
Babysitter Training (ages 11 – 15): Monday & Tuesday, June 27th
& 28th from 12:30 – 4:30 pm. This class is a FREE class but requires
a $20 deposit. You must attend both classes in order to receive your
deposit back.
Animation (children 10+): Three sessions are being offered. June
29 & 30, July 6 & 7 and July 13 & 14. All session dates are on
Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9 – 10:30 a.m. $84R/$126NR (there
is also a $15 lab fee that is payable to the instructor).
Summer Art Camp (ages 6 to 16): July 11 – 14 from 3 –4:30 pm.
Fee: $67R/$80NR.
Beautiful Summer Flowers (Design your own bouquet for any
occasion): For adults and seniors. July 28th from 3 – 4 pm.
$35R/52NR. Instructor will furnish supplies. Instructed by Luck
Flowers of Pasco.
Tacoma Museum of Glass Tour & Lunch on the Waterfront:
August 4th form 7 am – 9 pm. Fee is $99 per person. Registration
deadline is 5 pm on Thursday, July 21st. This trip is for adults 18 and
over.
Beautiful Fall Flowers (Design your own bouquet for any
occasion): For adults and seniors. August 18th from 3 – 4 pm.
$35R/52NR. Instructor will furnish supplies. Instructed by Luck
Flowers of Pasco.
Registration for the activities listed above begins Tuesday April 25th.
