I . PURPOSE : This Administrative Order is issued to identify the scope of computer training available from the Data Processing Division of the Executive Department and to establish a uniform procedure for requesting /scheduling such training services . II . "MAINFRAME" TRAINING SERVICES : The following are brief descriptions of the training classes available for "mainframe" users . A . WORD PROCESSING 1 , Basic : A basic hands-on session with our mainframe word processing system : What should word processing be used for? Its primary applications and limitations . Hands-on terminal training ( where are the main terminal keys and what does each do ) . Letter creation , using the minimum features . Hands-on editing of existing documents . 21 Advanced : Those currently using word processing on a daily basis : Hands-on letter creation and editing , using different tabs , highlighting and many other advanced features . Hands-on special utilization sessions . How to deal with problems and /or undocumented ( undesired ) occurrences . B . SPREADSHEETS 1 . Basic : A basic hands-on session with our mainframe Math / 3000 Electronic Spreadsheet program , including the following : What is a spreadsheet? When should it be used? Its primary applications and limitations . Hands-on terminal training ( what are the main terminal keys and what do they do ) . Hands-on participation ( with instruction ) in the • " Tutor 1 " self-teaching program . The instructor will explain and/or give more examples as the group asks questions . 21 Advanced : For serious spreadsheet users , people who currently use Math /3000 and wish to take advantage of ALL the advanced features : Hands-on participation ( with instructor ) in the " Tutor 2" self-teaching program . The instructor will explain and/or give more detailed examples as or where the group needs . The students are encouraged to bring their own spreadsheet and/or spreadsheet problems to use as a classroom example . C . REPORT WRITING - Using our mainframe 4th generation language ( QUIZ ) . 11 Basic : Basic hands-on report writing skills for simple reports : What is QUIZ ? How does it work ? What type of reporting . is possible? What are its limitations? What files do you need? Where are they? Is all the information there? Basic report layout procedures . How to "draft" your desired report . Hands-on report writing using a simple demonstration type file, with standard "default" layouts . Hands-on report writing using your own printer layouts . 21 Advanced : For serious report writing skills involving multifile selection and "designer" type procedures : Technical , hands-on report writing demonstrations . The difference between "Select" and "Choose" . Controlling footing totals , counting records , sub- totaling, control boards , and using maximum and average reporting . III . "PC" TRAINING SERVICES : Small group "basic" training is available to those offices using a personal computer ( as the number of PC users and functions grows , "advanced" training will become available in -house ) . The BASIC PC training includes : . Introduction to the PC ; what it can do and what it can't do . Hands-on walk-through , using the PC 's tutorial program . - 2 - Hands-on set-up of several single-file systems with some "default" entry screens and some basic report writing . IV . PROCEDURE : A . Users desiring any of the above training services shall submit their request using the standard Data Processing Services Request form established under Administrative Order No . 46 . The request must identify the training class desired ( separate request for each class ) , the number of users to attend , and the preferred dates . The Request form must then be routed through the City Manager's office to the Data Processing Manager . B . Upon receipt of a request for training approved by the City Manager , the Data Processing Manager will coordinate with the requesting Department Head to select date ( s ) and make final arrangements . Upon completion of the class , the Data Processing Manager will complete the Request for Service form and distribute copies to the using Department Head and City Manager , V . EFFECTIVE DATE : This Order is effective Monday . August 18 , 1986 . • GC : ps - 3 -
