Purpose: To ensure that personnel actions are made, and are perceived to be made, objectively, not as a
consequence of favoritism or family relationships.
Policy: Directors/managers/supervisors shall not be allowed to have any supervision, direct or indirect
of members of their immediate families, households or others with whom they have a significant
relationship. Further, members of the same family/household/significant relationship may not work in
the same department.
Definitions:
Direct/Indirect supervision responsibility criteria include:

• Promotion
• Pay/pay rate change
• Performance evaluation
• Indirect: Authority over the employee, yet not in a direct supervisory relationship.
Immediate family/household/significant relationships are defined as:
■ Spouse
• Child/step-child
• Parent/step-parent
• Sibling
• Aunt/uncle
• Niece/nephew
Grandparent/grandchild
■ Current in-laws (father, mother, sister, brother, daughter, son)
■ Person with whom you have a romantic or dating relationship.
