HomeMy WebLinkAboutN-231.5 - WA Family Care Act CITY OF PASCO ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS • Administrative Order No. 231.5 Personnel Policies & Procedures Subject: Washington Family Care Act Initial Effective Date: May 8, 2006 Revised Approved Purpose: To describe the provision of the Washington Family Care Act for eligible employees and means to obtain leave under the act. Policy: Under the Washington Family Care Act eligible employees can use sick leave or other paid time off, such as vacations or personal holiday, to care for 1) a child of the employee with a health condition that requires treatment or supervision, or 2) a spouse, parent, parent-in-law, or grandparent of the employee who has a serious health condition or an emergency condition. Definitions: ■ Employee — regular part time or full time personnel who have completed their initial probationary period. ■ Child — a biological, adopted, or foster child, a stepchild, legal ward, or a child of a person standing in loco parentis who is: Under 18 years of age; or • 18 years of age or older and incapable of self-care because of a mental/physical disability ■ Grandparent — a parent of a parent of an employee. ■ Parent — a biological parent of an employee or an individual who stood in loco parentis to an employee when the employee was a child. ■ Parent-in-law — a parent of the spouse of an employee. • Serious health condition — an illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that involves any period of incapacity, recovery or treatment connected with inpatient care or that involves continuing treatment by or under the supervision of a health care provider. Use of Family Care leave I . Employees can use sick leave (or other paid time off, such as vacation or personal holiday) to care for; • a child of the employee with a health condition that requires treatment or supervision, or; ■ a spouse, parent, parent-in-law or grandparent of the employee who has a serious health condition or an emergency condition. 2. Taking of leave must comply with the City' s requirements for eligibility and notification. Employees must call in their absences as required by City policy, department policy or collective bargaining agreement as applicable. 3 . An employee may not take paid leave until it has been earned. 4. If applicable, Washington Family Care Act will run concurrently with FMLA. • Approve Gary rut to , Cit Manager Date
