SUBJECT: ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO 2 ABOUT DISMISSAL OF EMPLOYEES
Effective immediately it shall be the administrative policy of the City that only the
City Manager , and no one else , can discharge a City employee for cause .
Department heads will be expected to make recommendations to the City Manager
where conditions for discharge are warranted , along with the reasons a discharge
has become necessary ,
Where the department head deems it necessary , for the good of the City service , to
remove an employee from his/her job owing to misconduct , department heads are
authorized to suspend the employee pending the review of the case by the City Manager ,
You are cautioned to be aware of the applicable Union contract provisions relating to
discipline before you commit yourself to any course of action ,
This order does not apply to summer seasonal employees where department heads shall
be authorized to discharge for cause without consulting the City Manager and getting
his approval in advance of the action ,
