HomeMy WebLinkAbout070 - Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Plan r ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO. 70 • TO: All Departmen April 26, 1993 t FROM: Gary Crutchfiel 4 anager SUBJECT: BLOODBORNE P THOGENS EXPOSURE CONTROL PLAN, L PURPOSE: The purpose of this Administrative Order is to comply with the OSHA Bloodbome Pathogens Rule, which requires all employers with employees potentially exposed to bloodborne pathogens to develop and implement an Exposure Control Plan. 11, BACKGROUND: The Bloodbome Pathogens Rule requires: documentation of exposed workers, the development of a written exposure control plan, implementation of specific policies and practices to reduce or eliminate exposure, medical waste and BioHazard labeling procedures, record-keeping, the availability of Hepatitus B vaccination, the provision of information and training, and medical follow-up after an exposure incident - all according to very specific requirements. III. POLICY: a. The Bloodbome Pathogens Exposure Control Plan is developed in order to assist in the assurance of employee safety. b. The plan shall be kept in a conspicuous location in all departments/divisions where employees have full access to the plan and its content. C. The plan, as presently written and with any necessary future revisions and/or amendments, is a firm policy of the city. IV. RESPONSIBILITIES: a. Department Heads. Each department head has an affirmative duty to keep this plan in all work areas where employees work at a fixed location or congregate before and after work assignments`. 1. Inform their employees where the plan is stored and that it is accessible to them. 2. Assure their employees receive the proper education regarding the plan and its procedures. • b. Employees. 1 . All employees shall attend an informational meeting regarding bloodborne pathogens and the plan. 2. All employees shall remain knowledgeable of the plan, its location in the workplace, and the general provisions of the plan. V. EFFECTIVE DATE: This Order is effective immediately.
