A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE PASCO DOWNTOWN
DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION APPLICATION FOR MAIN
STREETTM PROGRAM RECERTIFICATION.
WHEREAS, the City of Pasco supports the preservation and
redevelopment of the Pasco downtown district; and
WHEREAS, the economic health and cultural vitality of downtown is
crucial to the overall welfare of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pasco supports and cooperates with the Pasco
Downtown Development Association in the revitalization of downtown; and
WHEREAS, the Pasco Downtown Development Association has applied to
the Washington State Downtown Revitalization Program for recertification in
the Main StreetTM Program and has requested a resolution from the Pasco City
Council in support of that application; and
WHEREAS, the Pasco City Council has established specific objectives in
the Professional Services Agreement for 2003 for downtown revitalization,
including that the Pasco Downtown Development Association apply for
recertification by the State of Washington as a Main StreetTM Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pasco recognizes the extent to which the
community benefits from the efforts of the Pasco Downtown Development
Association and has increased financial support to the Association in
recognition of the contribution the Association is making toward achieving City
development goals; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO:
That the Pasco City Council hereby endorses the concept of a local Main
StreetTM Program and the submission by the Pasco Downtown Development
Association of an application to the State of Washington to become a
designated Main StreetTM community program and participate as such in the
state Downtown Revitalization Program Tier System.
