HomeMy WebLinkAbout2657 Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 2657 A RESOLUTION REGARDING FEDERAL FOOD ASSISTANCE WORK REQUIREMENTS. WHEREAS, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (the Act), provides federally-funded food assistance benefits to able-bodied people who are 18-50 years of age without dependents; and WHEREAS, recipients are required to work 20 hours a week, participate in a work program 20 hours a week, or volunteer 16 hours a month in order to remain eligible for food assistance; and WHEREAS, the Act allows states to ask for waivers for cities with an unemployment rate of over 10 percent, or which do not have sufficient jobs for recipients: and WHEREAS, the City of Pasco is eligible to apply for a waiver but chooses not to use the waiver from the federal Food Assistance Work Requirements; NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED that the Pasco City Council hereby chooses not to use a waiver from the federal Food Assistance Work Requirements.
