HomeMy WebLinkAbout2420 Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 2420 A RESOLUTION concerning passenger train service between Pasco and Seattle WHEREAS, Amtrak provides passenger train service between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia; between Seattle and Eugene, Oregon; between Seattle and Spokane; and between Spokane and Portland, by way of Pasco; and WHEREAS, the only rail line not served by Amtrak is the rail line in Southeastern Washington, between Pasco and Seattle, by way of Yakima and Ellensburg; and WZZEREAS, the old Northern Pacific line over Stampede Pass has been re- activated recently for freight service; and WHERFAS, a substantial number of citizens in Pasco and throughout the Southeastern Washington area would utilize a passenger train service between Pasco and Seattle, if it were available; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCO, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Washington State Legislature is hereby urged to require the Department of Transportation to arrange for Amtrak passenger train service between Pasco and Seattle, through Yakima, with further service between Pasco and Walla 'Walla when the track between Touchet and ZangerJunction can be improved to meet appropriate standards.
