Tuesday February 9, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Chairperson Margaret
Moore.
Members present: Margaret Moore, Richard Brandt and Ron Van Nostrand.
Members absent: Linda Hendrickson-Patrick and Katie Barton; both were ill.
Tom Larsen was present representing the Pasco City Council.
Staff Present: Vince Guerrero and Marie Schiefelbein.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes of the January 12, 2010 meeting were approved as written.
Vince Guerrero covered the ALTC program updates for January 2010.
Vince Guerrero covered the Senior Center Highlights and upcoming events
for January and February, 2010 including:
❖ Dental Hygiene services were offered at the Pasco Senior Center on
January 11th. Services are performed by Marie McElderry, RDH, BS of
Oral Health Care. These services are performed at a reduced rate for
anyone over the age of 60. For more information or to make an
appointment call 420-0884. These services will be available again on
February 8th, March 8th, and April 12th.
❖ The City of Pasco held a Community Forum at the Pasco Senior Center
on Tuesday, January 12th. The forum was an opportunity for City of
Pasco residents to express ideas regarding future direction for the City
and is intended to assist the City Council in setting their goals. Nine
residents and 14 staff members attended.
❖ A Dental Health Education presentation for seniors was scheduled for
January 12th at 11:00 a.m. There were no participants for this
presentation.
❖ An AARP Driver Safety class was held on January 13 & 14 with thirteen
people attending.
❖ A financial Advisory Hour and Dessert Social was held on January 14th
from 11 :00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.
❖ The Questers - a diverse group of people who share common interests
such as the love of antiques, love of learning and the desire to
preserve historical buildings and sites - conducted a FREE presentation
at the Pasco Senior Center on Tuesday, January 19th at 1 :00 p.m.
Four people participated.
❖ A free dance for adults and seniors was sponsored by the Pasco High
School DECA club on January 22 nd
❖ A new session of Drawing with Jerre Raven began on January 20th and
runs until March 10th
❖ New sessions of Enhance Fitness and Senior Stretch and Tone began
February 1st.
❖ AARP Tax Aide began Monday, February 1St. Free tax aide is available
on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon until April 12th (no services
are available February 15th due to the President's Day closure). No
appointment is necessary (first-come-first-served).
❖ Another Financial Advisory Hour and Dessert Social will be held
Wednesday, February 10th from 11 :00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. There is no
charge to speak with an advisor and no appointment is necessary. No
products or services will be advertised or sold during this time.
❖ A Valentines dance sponsored by the Pasco Senior Citizen's Association
will take place on February 10th from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per
person.
❖ The Pasco High School Key Club will sponsor a FREE Valentines Ball on
Saturday, February 13th from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. The Key Club will
provide live music, decorations, refreshment and photos.
❖ Another AARP Driver Safety class will be held February 10 & 11 from
9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost is $12 for AARP members (proof of
membership must be supplied) and $14 for non-members.
❖ Audiologists from Columbia Basin Hearing and Balance Center continue
to offer FREE hearing screenings on the third Tuesday of each month
at the Pasco Senior Center. An appointment is required and can be
made between 11 :30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. by calling 545-3459. In
addition to a hearing screening, the Audiologists will also clean your
hearing aids and provide performance check-ups on hearing aids.
Hearing aide batteries are also available at a discounted price.
❖ A new session of Yoga begins February 16 and runs until March 25tH
❖ A FREE workshop entitled "Reverse Mortgages Explained" will be
conducted by Senior Reverse Mortgage on Wednesday, February 17th
from 1 :00 - 3:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to
877-563-4241.
❖ Another session of Sewing with Marcy will begin February 22"d and run
until May 24th. Cost is $26 for City of Pasco residents and $31 for non-
residents.
❖ A class entitled "Get a Website Quick, Cheap and Easy" is scheduled
for Wednesday, March 17th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Cost is $47 for City
of Pasco residents and $49 for non-residents. This class is a Power
Point presentation. Students do not need to bring computers.
❖ Seattle Mariners Home Opener: Don't miss one of the most exciting
games of the season at Safeco Field as the Mariners take on the
Oakland Athletics. Experience all of the excitement and special pre-
game festivities that only happen on opening day! We will travel by
motorcoach to Seattle where we will be dropped off right at Safeco
Field; no waiting in line or paying to park and you don't even have to
do the driving. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of
Snoqualmie Pass. Tickets are on the 100 level! We will be stopping
for dinner on the way home (not included in the ticket price). This trip
is sure to fill fast as opening day always sells out, so register early!

$84 for City of Pasco residents and $89 for non-residents (fee includes
transportation and tickets to the game). Registration deadline:
March 12, 2010. Ages: Adult.

❖ There was no old business discussed.
New Business
❖ Tom Larsen has been reassigned to the Senior Citizen's Advisory
Committee for 2010 - 2011.
❖ The Advisory committee was asked to give feedback on water aerobics
classes geared toward Senior Citizens.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am. The
next meeting will be held Tuesday March 9 2010 at 10:00 am.
