Tuesday May 13, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 10: 10 am by Chairperson Katie
Barton. Linda Hendrickson-Patrick then took over Chairperson duties
for the remainder of the meeting.
Members Present: Katie Barton, Ron Van Nostrand, and Linda
Hendrickson-Patrick
Members absent: John Evans.
Tom Larsen was present representing the Pasco City Council.
Staff Present: Paul Whitemarsh, Vince Guerrero and Marie
Schiefelbein.
Minutes of the April 8, 2008 meeting were approved as written.
Marie Schiefelbein covered ALTC program updates for March and April.
Vince Guerrero covered the Senior Center Highlights and upcoming
events including:
❖ Tax Aid's last day to help people prepare their returns was April
14th. Approximately 155 people were helped during the months
of February, March and April. Anyone still needing help
preparing their returns to get the stimulus rebate can still
contact the front desk and arrange for one of the volunteers to
help them. A volunteer will be available on June 9th beginning at
10:00 a.m. to help anyone still needing to file for their rebate.
❖ An Open House lunch and dance took place on Monday, April 7tH
Approximately 65 people attended the luncheon and 45 people
stayed to dance.
❖ An AARP Driver Safety class took place on April 9th and 10th
Nineteen people attended this class. Another class took place on
May 7 & 8 with nine people attending.
❖ A Financial Advisory Hour and Pie Social took place on April 24tH
Approximately 7 people attended.
❖ An Identity Theft presentation took place on April 29th with 10
people attending.
❖ April's birthday potluck was held on the 25th with twenty-eight
people attending.
❖ Bob Richardson was the winner of the April Roy's Western
Smorgy drawing. He received a meal for two at Roy's Western
Smorgy.
❖ The 17th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception was held on
Thursday, May 1, 2008. Approximately 460 invitations were
sent out to volunteers from all departments within the City of
Pasco. Over 220 people attended this year's event.
❖ Ballroom and Latin dance lessons are being offered on
Wednesday afternoons beginning at 3:00 p.m. Cost is $25 a
month per person. If you wish to attend please RSVP as soon as
possible to 545-3459. Payment is due to the instructor at your
first lesson.
❖ A Parking Lot BBQ will be held Monday, June 2nd at 12 noon. We
will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings.
Cost is $4 per person. Tickets are required and must be
purchased at the Pasco Senior Center by Thursday, May 29th
Special guests from "Ye Old Car Club" will be here to show off
some of their classic cars.
❖ New sessions of Enhance Fitness and Senior Stretch and Tone
begin June 2nd.
❖ A Spring Fling Dinner and Dance will be held on Wednesday, May
21St from 5:30 - 10:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are required and
must be purchased by Friday, May 16th. Cost for dinner tickets
is $5 per person. The dance is also $5 per person and can be
paid for at the door.
❖ The next AARP Driver Safety Class will be held on June 4 & 5
from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. To
register call 545-3459 or stop by the front desk.
❖ A Kayak Tour and Dinner at Anthony's will take place Friday,
June 15th from 1:30 - 6:00 p.m. Cost is $49 for City of Pasco
residents and $54 for non-residents. Registration deadline is
June 11th. Trip fee includes kayak, shuttle, equipment, guides
and dinner. You may register at the Pasco Senior Center, Pasco
Recreation Services office or on line at www.pasco-wa.gov.
❖ The next Wildhorse day trip is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17th.
Cost is $12 per person. You will receive a $10 coupon that can
be used in the restaurant, buffet, cafe or lounge (for food items
only). Please register in person at the Pasco Senior Center or
call 545-3459 for more information.
❖ Life Line Screening will be here on Tuesday, June 24th to perform
Stroke Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, and
Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening. For more information or
to make your appointment call 1-800-324-1851.
❖ The next Birthday Potluck will be held on Friday, June 27th. An
RSVP is required by 6/24. Please bring a dish to share with
others and your place setting.
❖ A Taco Feed will take place Monday July 71h at 12:00 noon. Cost
is just $5.00 per person. Tickets are required and can be
purchased at the Front Desk during regular business hours.
Tickets will be available until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1St
❖ The next session of Drawing with Jerre Raven begins July 23rd
and runs until September 17th. Cost is $43 for City of Pasco
residents and $45.50 for non-residents.
❖ The Washington State Association of Senior Centers has
obtained tickets for a game between the Seattle Mariners and
the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, August 27th beginning at
1:40 p.m. Seats are located on the 100 level sections where
every spot has a fantastic view. You must provide your own
transportation to and from the game. Tickets are $30 per
person; $10 less than regular ticket prices. To purchase tickets
contact Vince Guerrero.
❖ The Washington State Association of Senior Centers is offering a
trip to Ireland beginning September 5, 2008. Fee is $3399 per
person double or $3959 per person single. For more information
contact Vince Guerrero at 545-3459.
❖ Discover the Gorge! A trip through the beautiful Columbia Gorge
is being offered September 28 thru October 1, 2008. This is an
all-inclusive excursion that includes three nights at the Hood
River Inn; Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler; Historic Mount Hood
Railroad featuring an authentic chuck wagon lunch; Columbia
River Gorge Discovery Center and the Western Antique
Automobile and Aeroplane Museum (WAAAM) featuring one of
the largest fully operational collections in the nation. There are
also many option activities available. Cost is $785 per person
for single occupancy or $731 per person for double occupancy.

This trip is presented by the Washington State Association of
Senior Centers and True North Productions.
❖ Cruise Lake Chelan - Explore Stehekin. This trip is being offered
Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 5:45 am to 10 pm. We will
leave from the Pasco Senior Center parking lot and travel to
Lake Chelan by Chartered Tour Bus and Board the Lady Express
for their Fall Excursion. The Lady leaves the dock at 10 am and
arrives in Stehekin at 12:30 pm. We will have a one-hour
layover where you are free to take a stroll through the town of
Stehekin or you can take the popular Rainbow Falls Tour for an
additional $7 per person. We will then board the Lady for our
trip back arriving at Chelan at 4 pm. Cost for this trip is $99 for
City of Pasco residents and $109 for non-residents. You may
register at the Pasco Senior Center, The Pasco Recreation
Services office or on line at www.pasco-wa.gov.
❖ Two Spokane Best of Broadway shows are currently being
offered.

S. 3rd), the Pasco Senior Center (1315 N. 7t" Ave.) or on line at

Old Business
❖ Paul discussed the Volunteer Reception held May 1St. The event
was very well attended and almost everyone won a door prize.
❖ The City Council has scaled back the number of Senior Citizen's
Advisory Board members to 4 outside individuals and one
representative from the Senior Association. Council will be
interviewing applicants very soon.
New Business
❖ Vince discussed the Multi-Cultural Fair being held at the Pasco
Senior Center on May 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
❖ The new nurse that was hired to help with Foot Care and Health
Screening has decided not to take the job.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 10:40 am. The
next meeting will be held Tuesday June 10, 2008 at 10:00 am.
