Tuesday July 8, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Chairperson John Evans.
Members Present: John Evans and Katie Barton.
Members absent: Linda Hendrickson-Patrick and Ron Van Nostrand.
Tom Larsen was present representing the Pasco City Council.
Staff Present: Paul Whitemarsh.
A change in the June 2008 minutes was made to reflect the fact that John
Evans was present. Minutes approved with this change.
Paul Whitemarsh covered the ALTC program update for the Foot Care
program. No Health Screening report was available.
Paul Whitemarsh covered the Senior Center Highlights and upcoming events
including:
❖ The 15th Annual All Senior Picnic will be held in Howard Amon Park
next to the Richland Community Center on Thursday, September 18th
from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Picnic buttons go on Sale Tuesday, July 1,
2008. Cost is $5.00 per person. Buttons can be purchased at the
Richland Community Center and at the Pasco and Kennewick Senior
Centers. For more information call 545-3459.
❖ A Wildhorse Day Trip is planned for July 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Cost is $12 per person. Please register at the Pasco Senior Center.
❖ Introduction to Computers and the Internet is being offered at the Pasco
Senior Center on Thursdays, July 17th to September 18th from 3:30 -
5:00 p.m. This basic course offers a self-paced discovery approach to
learning and using computers. You will be guided through a variety of
topics tailored to your individual need. Sessions are 10 weeks long. Cost
is $8 for city of Pasco residents and $10 for non-residents. Register at
the Pasco Senior Center, Recreation department or on line.
❖ A new session of Drawing with Jerre Raven begins July 23 and runs
until September 10. Class meets on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. Cost is $43.00 for City of Pasco residents and $45.50 for non-
residents.
❖ New sessions of Enhance Fitness and Senior Stretch and Tone begin July
2nd.
❖ Marcy Fink will be at the Pasco Senior Center on July 14th from 12:00 -
4:00 p.m. to sew pillows that will be sent to troops serving overseas. If
you would like to help, stop by on the 14th. No sewing experience is
necessary.
❖ A Taco Feed will take place Monday July 71h at 12:00 noon. Cost is just
$5.00 per person. Tickets are required and can be purchased at the Front
Desk during regular business hours. Tickets will be available until 5:00
p.m. on Tuesday, July 3rd. This event is sponsored by Riverton
Retirement and the Pasco Senior Center
❖ The next session of Drawing with Jerre Raven begins July 23rd and runs
until September 171h. Cost is $43 for City of Pasco residents and $45.50
for non-residents.
❖ A Wild Wild West Dinner and Dance will take place Monday, August 4th
from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Tickets for dinner are required and must be
purchased by July 31St. Dinner is from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., followed by a
free dance from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Live music will be provided by Big
Daddy & The Nightcrawlers. This event is sponsored by Parkview
Estates, Sterling Insurance and the Pasco Senior Center.
❖ Kayak the Hanford Reach. This trip is being offered on Saturday, August
23rd. Cost is $59 for city of Pasco residents and $64 for non-residents.
We will paddle from the Vernita Bridge through White Bluffs and the old
ferry landing. This trip includes transportation, guides, shuttle and
Kayaks. Please bring a lunch/snacks, sunscreen and water. We will be
departing from Pasco City Hall at 9:00 a.m. and returning at
approximately 5:00 p.m.
❖ The Washington State Association of Senior Centers has obtained tickets
for a game between the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins on
Wednesday, August 27th beginning at 1:40 p.m. Seats are located on
the 100 level sections where every spot has a fantastic view. You must
provide your own transportation to and from the game. Tickets are $30
per person; $10 less than regular ticket prices. To purchase tickets
contact Vince Guerrero.
❖ The Washington State Association of Senior Centers is offering a trip to
Ireland beginning September 5, 2008. Fee is $3399 per person double or
$3959 per person single. For more information contact Vince Guerrero at
545-3459.
❖ Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees. Travel aboard A & A MotorCoach
to Safeco Field for a day at the Ball Park. We will depart at 7: 15 a.m.
(please check in by 7:00 a.m.) on Sunday, September 7th and Travel to
Seattle for the games. After the game we will head home, stopping for
dinner (not included in ticket price). We will be returning at
approximately 8:45 p.m. This trip is open to all ages (youth must be
accompanied by an adult). Cost is $79 for city of Pasco residents and
$89 for non-residents. Registration Deadline is Wednesday, August 6 th
❖ Discover the Gorge! A trip through the beautiful Columbia Gorge is being
offered September 28 thru October 1, 2008. This is an all-inclusive
excursion that includes three nights at the Hood River Inn; Columbia
Gorge Sternwheeler; Historic Mount Hood Railroad featuring an authentic
chuck wagon lunch; Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center and the
Western Antique Automobile and Aeroplane Museum (WAAAM) featuring
one of the largest fully operational collections in the nation. There are
also many option activities available. Cost is $785 per person for single
occupancy or $731 per person for double occupancy. More information is
available at the front desk or call 545-3459. This trip is presented by the
Washington State Association of Senior Centers and True North
Productions.
❖ Cruise Lake Chelan - Explore Stehekin. This trip is being offered
Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 5:45 am to 10 pm. We will leave from
the Pasco Senior Center parking lot and travel to Lake Chelan by
Chartered Tour Bus and Board the Lady Express for their Fall Excursion.
The Lady leaves the dock at 10 am and arrives in Stehekin at 12:30 pm.
We will have a one-hour layover where you are free to take a stroll
through the town of Stehekin or you can take the popular Rainbow Falls
Tour for an additional $7 per person. We will then board the Lady for our
trip back arriving at Chelan at 4 pm. Cost for this trip is $99 for City of
Pasco residents and $109 for non-residents. You may register at the
Pasco Senior Center, The Pasco Recreation Services office or on line at
www,pasco-wa.gov.
❖ Two Spokane Best of Broadway shows are currently being offered.

Old Business
❖ Paul Whitemarsh reported on the Pool Bond issue.
New Business
❖ The question "What is the role of the Senior Citizen's Advisory Board?"
was brought up. Paul explained that the Advisory Board's role is to be
the eyes and ears of the seniors and the facility users. He also stated
that they are the sounding board for new programs and/or changes to the
facility and its programs.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11:00 am. The next
meeting will be held Tuesday August 12, 2008 at 10:00 am. Chairperson will
be Ron Van Nostrand.
