Tuesday December 11, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Margaret Moore.
Members present: Ron Van Nostrand, Katie Barton Linda Hendrickson-
Patrick and Margaret Moore.
Members Absent: John Evens (excused; previous engagement).
Tom Larsen was present representing the Pasco City Council.
Staff Present: Paul Whitemarsh and Vince Guerrero
Minutes of the November 13, 2007 meeting were approved as written.
Vince Guerrero covered the ALTC program updates and answered
questions of the Senior Center Highlights and upcoming events.
Margaret Moore covered the Senior Center High Lights and up coming
events, including:
❖ New session of Enhance Fitness and Senior Stretch and Tone
began on December 3rd.
❖ A new session of Drawing with Jerre Raven began December 5th
and will run until January 30th. There will be no class December
26th
❖ A Financial Advisory Hour took place November 28th. The next
one will be December 13tH
Don Barnard was the winner of the October Roy's Western
Smorgy meal for two and Dianna Seuberlich was the November
winner.
❖ The November Birthday Potluck took place on the 16th with fifty-
one people attending. The Senior Association provided turkey,
mashed potatoes, gravy and dressing; all cooked by Ron Van
Nostrand.
❖ The City of Pasco and the Pasco Senior Association teamed up to
provide the Senior Citizens of Pasco FREE installation of 9-volt
batteries for their smoke detectors. Participants were required
to reside within the City of Pasco limits. This service was
provided November 26 - 30 from 9:00 .am to 4:00 pm by the
Pasco Fire Department. The Pasco Franklin County Senior
Citizen's Association donated $50.00 that was used to purchase
new smoke detectors for those who either did not have them or
needed new ones. Pasco Lowes gave the City a discount and
Vince was able to get 16 detectors for $50. Had we paid full
price for these detectors it would have cost approximately $78.
A total of 37 seniors took advantage of this service.
❖ Breakfast with Santa takes place Saturday, December 8th. Cost
is $2.00 per person. The menu includes All-you-can-eat
pancakes, ham, coffee, juice and hot chocolate. Tickets are
required and can be purchased at the Senior Center, the
Recreation services office or at the door.
❖ The Spirit of Christmas featuring the Pasco High School Encore
will take place December 11th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is a
FREE holiday event brought to you by the Pasco Senior Center
and Riverton Retirement. Snacks and refreshments will be
served.
❖ A Semi-Formal Christmas Dance will be held December 12th
Cost is $5.00 per person.
❖ Yokes Fresh Market in Pasco is once again holding it's FREE
Holiday Dinner at the Pasco Senior Center. This event takes
place Thursday, December 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided. We are currently full however
we are taking names on a wait list.
❖ The Rolling Hills Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will
provide a FREE Friends and Family Show on Friday, December
14th beginning at 6:30 p.m.
❖ A Holiday Concert with McGee Middle School will take place
Tuesday, December 18th at 11 :30 a.m. in the Pasco Senior
Center Dining Hall. If you wish to have lunch please contact
Meals on Wheels 24 hours in advance by calling 543-5706.
❖ The Pasco Senior Center will be closed December 24th and 25th
for Christmas and again on December 31St and January 1, 2008
to celebrate the New Year.
❖ December's Birthday Potluck will take place on the 28th. Please
bring a dish to share with other and your place setting. An RSVP
is required by 12/21.
❖ The next AARP Driver Safety Training will take place January 10
and 11 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Please register at the front
desk or call 545-3459.
❖ A Pinochle Tournament and Potluck will take place at the Pasco
Senior Center on Saturday, January 12, 2008. The Potluck
begins at 11:00 a.m. and Pinochle play begins at 12:00 noon.
There will be a small entry fee for the tournament. If you would
like to participate please RSVP at the front desk or by calling
545-3459.
❖ A trip to the Northwest Flower and Garden show in Seattle is
planned for February 17, 2008. Trip time is 6:00 a.m. to 10:00
p.m. You will enjoy 24 dramatic display gardens that spill over
with ideas and inspiration; along with tens of thousands of
flowers blooming. The show features 115 free seminars; the
most offered by any flower show in the world! 350 exhibitors-all
exclusively having to do with gardening and garden design will
be available for you to browse. Find the newest garden gadgets,
plants, furnishings and accessories - all in one place. We will
depart Pasco's City Hall via motorcoach to Seattle, WA. We will
dine at Mamma Melina's Italian Restaurant prior to our return.
Dinner includes appetizer, salad, entree, dessert and choice of
soda, coffee or tea. Cost is $124 for City of Pasco residents and
$134 for non-residents. This includes transportation, entry to
the Northwest Flower and Garden Show, and dinner.

Recreation Services office or on line at

❖ A trip to the Spokane Opera House to enjoy the `Best of
Broadway Presents...Mamma Mia" will take place Thursday,
March 27, 2008. Rear Balcony seating is $91 for City of Pasco
Residents and $101 for non-residents. Rear terrace and front
balcony seating is $99 for City of Pasco residents and $109 for
non-residents. Orchestra and front terrace seating is $109 for
City of Pasco residents and $119 for non-residents. The
registration deadline is Wednesday, February 27, 2008. You
may register at the Recreation Services Office, the Pasco Senior
Center or on Line at www.ci.pasco.wa.us/recreation.
❖ The Washington State Association of Senior Centers is offering a
trip to Ireland beginning September 5, 2008. Fee is $3399 per
person double or $3959 per person single. For more information
contact Vince Guerrero at 545-3459.
Old Business:
• Christmas Baskets were highlighted briefly
• Paul discussed Aquatic Center updates: There has been no real
progress on the regional aquatic center. There has been an Ad-
Hawk Committee that was put together to take a look at the
needs of the City of Pasco to update, change or add additional
pools in the area. More information will be presented after the
committee presents their findings.
• A discussion about allowing alcohol in the Senior Center during
rentals took place. Paul asked the board what their
recommendation on allowing alcohol in center. Most of the Board
was in favor of allowing alcohol with Linda Hendrickson-Patrick
not in favor of the idea.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11: 10 am. The
next meeting will be held Tuesday January 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
Chairperson for this meeting will be John Evans.
