HomeMy WebLinkAbout09.01.11 Park Board Minutes PARK & RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES September 1, 2011 In attendance: Joel Nimmo Duane Taber Tom Davenport Michael Mathews Abigail Kidd Saul Martinez—Council Liaison Staff: Rick Terway, Director A&CS, Carleen Hanscom, Recreation Services Manager and Dan Dotta, Facilities Manager. The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. Joel Nimmo moved to approve the minutes of the August 4, 2011 meeting. Abigail Kidd seconded. Motion carried. STAFF REPORTS Recreation • Pools closed on August 28 for the season. • Approximately 60,000 people visited the 3 pools during the summer. • We are currently taking registrations for flag football and have 24 teams registered. • We are also taking registrations for Fall Softball, a program that was added this year. • We are hosting the CSSA tournament this weekend at the Softball Complex with some games played in Richland and Kennewick. • We are currently taking registrations for the Cable Bridge Run in December. More flyers and posters will be going out this fall to businesses in the community. • Staff is pursuing a couple of leads on possible sponsors for the Grand Old 4t" event for 2012. We are hopeful that with a couple of new sponsors we will be able to bring back the music and keep a large scale fireworks show for the community. • Waiting to learn more details on the new Pasco School District schedule which will impact Recreation Services entire schedule. Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings Park & Facility Projects • Replaced starter relay for orange slide at Memorial Pool • Closed pools for the season • Prepared Memorial Pool for swim meet • Striped fields at 36 Soccer, football fields for flag football and Highland Park • Bolted down picnic tables at Chiawana Park shelters • Installed occupancy sensors at the Library • Painted ceiling tiles and replaced counter top at MILK • Built and installed communication masts for Public Works • Removed 15 cherry trees damaged from the winter and pruned the rest • Irrigation repairs: 4 mainline, 2 lateral, flushed 5 valves of debris at Loviisa Farms, replaced transducer at Chiawana and replaced booster pump at Wade Park Cemetery • Preformed 8 funerals; 7 burials and 1 cremation • Completed 3 pre-need contracts and install 4 headstones • Removed cherry trees damaged from the winter Special Events • Assisted Little League with aerating the fields • Assisted Recreation in preparing for Penny Carnival • Softball NSA Men's State tournament Director • Discussed Memorial Pool Lap Swim Petition requesting an additional hour of lap swim in the evening. • Staff shared participant numbers and revenues. • Tom Davenport moved to keep the hours the same. Abigail Kidd seconded. Motion carried. • Distributed draft Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan and asked all to review and provide feedback to Sandy by September 12th or testify during the Public Hearing at the September 15th Planning Commission Meeting. • Discussed the Athletic Complex rules, including no dogs and no wheeled devices allowed. The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
