HomeMy WebLinkAbout11.03.11 Park Board Minutes PARK & RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES November 3, 2011 In attendance: Joel Nimmo Edmon Daniels Tom Davenport Michael Mathews Abigail Kidd Duane Taber Saul Martinez—Council Liaison Staff: Rick Terway, Director A&CS; Nolan Harper, Lead Recreation Specialist and Dan Dotta, Facilities Manager. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Mike Mathews moved to approve the minutes of the September 1, 2011 meeting. Joel Nimmo seconded. Motion carried. STAFF REPORTS Recreation Completed Programs: • Adult Flag Football - Largest in the state of Washington with 25 teams playing this year. • Zumba classes were held at Pasco High School; we had 21 people sign up for October session. Upcoming Programs: • Cable Bridge Run will be held Saturday Dec., 17. Last year there were approx. 2,100 runners. Cost $17 with shirt; $12 without shirt. • Youth basketball registration is open until Nov. 27. Program scheduled to start the weekend of Jan. 21. • Twin City Adult Basketball will start in Dec.; generally will have between 32-40 teams. • Church League Basketball will start the third week of Jan. with approx. 12-16 teams. • Just opened up the drop-in racquetball/basketball program at PHS on Oct. 25. Numbers will generally pick up in Dec.-Feb. Other upcoming programs in Jan.-April brochure. The Winter brochure will come out in the Tri-City Herald on Dec. 6. Registration begins on Dec. 13. • Your Money- educates youth how to budget and save money. • A series of Arts & Crafts classes for ages 2-5 will take place at the Senior Center and City Hall. Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings Park & Facility Projects • Repaired slide at Chiawana Park • Striped football fields for flag football and Highland Park • Installed new bollards and rocks at Chiawana Park • Repaired bollard at Rd 60 on the bike path • Removed shade cloth for the season • Tilled and seeded P2 softball field • Started winterizing irrigation systems • Winterized buildings • Irrigation repairs: 2 mainline, repaired 2 valves Cemetery • Preformed 13 funerals; 7 burials and 6 cremations • Completed 3 pre-need contracts and install 5 headstones • Planted winter stock in planter beds Special Events • Assisted Recreation in setting up for the Hay Ride • Received play equipment for Capitol Park Director • Friends of Pasco Parks and Recreation discussion was tabled. • Updated Board on the progress of construction at Capitol Park (Linda Loviisa). • Discussed smoke free/drug free zones. The Board is in favor of looking into tobacco free areas in the parks. • Discussed winterization of park facilities. Dan Dotta stated there has been vandalism and weather damage in the past and CPSC recommends playgrounds not be used during cold weather or frost and ice conditions. It was suggested that dates be set for take down and replacement of equipment. Board concurred to continue current practice. • Discussed Kiwanis request for permanent shelter at Memorial Park. The meeting was adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
