HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.06.10 Park Board Minutes PARK& RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL May 6, 2010 In attendance: Duane Taber Edmon Daniels Mike Mathews Grace Adams Tom Davenport Staff. Rick Terway, Administrative and Community Services Director, Dan Dotta, Facilities Services Manager and Carleen Hanscom, Recreation Services Manager. Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. at the newly remodeled Memorial Pool. Staff led members on a tour of the pool explaining details of the project and answering questions on the construction, operation and anticipated opening date. STAFF REPORTS Recreation • Adult Softball has 53 teams this year • Novice Soccer has 51 students signed up • New Karate program has been very successful, 25, 27, 18 in each class • Started Aquatics interviews • We have 24 returning staff to Aquatics • We are offering a lifeguard training class at the end of May • Advisory council members were ask for any suggestions off of the possible list for Grand Marshals for the July 4th Parade. o Suggestions given were Duane Taber and Vic Vanderschoor • Notified the Council that Abigail Kidd will be filling the vacant position on the Board. Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Attended Irrigation Variable Frequency Drive class • Attended Blue Print reading class Park& Facility Projects • Started irrigation in various locations using City irrigation • Irrigation repairs: 4 mainline 3 lateral breaks • Repaired irrigation water line at Chiawana • Installed check valves on all infield sprinklers at the Softball Complex • Started weed spraying • Tumbleweed cleanup • Completed back flow testing for irrigation systems throughout town • Placed sod at Liberty Park for PW Cemetery • Preformed 7 funerals; 5 burials and 2 cremations • Started irrigation system • Replaced six maple trees Special Events • Installed conduit for fiber at the Parks shop and Cemetery • Hosted Ice Breaker tournament • Picked up donated benches from Court Club Director • 10 RFQ's were received to update the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan, which must be done to remain qualified for RCO grants. • NE Soccer Field grant application is in process with a wish list of playground, shelter and other amenities in addition to the 8 soccer fields. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
