Rick Terway, Director Administrative and Community Services and Nolan Harper, Lead Recreation Specialist. Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. STAFF REPORTS Recreation • The Memorial pool grand re-opening went great and has been a very busy summer. So far we have seen: 0 4,700 Adults and 15,000 Youth at Memorial Pool 0 120 Adults and 1,700 Youth at Kurtzman Pool 0 360 Adults and 2,400 Youth at Richardson Pool • Swim lessons have also been very full with a total of 1,615 registered to date. • Our 2 novice swim teams are both full and bring great excitement to the pool for multiple summer swim meets, the final Championship meet on Aug 5th. • We hosted 2 Lifeguard training classes for a total of 30 students, both classes were full. • This year we started a"GuardStart"program that teaches youth ages 11-15 the preliminary skills of being a lifeguard. This is set up to be a feeder program for our future lifeguards. Both classes were full with waitlists. • We offered a new format for our teen/adult learn to swim program. This is set up for older individuals who have no experience in swimming but are too old to enter our youth programs. To date we have had 2 successful classes and hoping for more. • The Grand Old 4t'Event was a great success! • Dwayne Taber led the parade as the Grand Marshal • It was reported that we had record numbers watching along the parade route • The fireworks show was also a big hit, That 80's Show Band put on a great performance with fireworks that followed. The Dust Devils stadium was full with many more watching from the softball complex,parking lots, etc... • We offered a new overnight kayaking trip in partnership with Richland that filled up and was a big hit. • Summer Art Camp was a new program and it filled up quickly with people on the waiting list. • The summer long day camp that we offered was unable to field enough registrations and was cancelled. We will try again in 2011. • Kiddies Parade took place in July at Memorial Park, it was a big hit with Sandy's Trophies, Miss Tri-Cities, and Ronald McDonald there to help us host the event. • Softball Tournaments—We have hosted 8 so far this year and we have 3 more scheduled. • Pee Wee Tennis Program filled up so quickly that we added an additional week to accommodate the waitlist. • Senior Service programs continue to be in high demand especially our Foot Care program. Our long term nurse Sue Linehan, moved away and recently we hired Kris Welch to fill her position. • The Fall Recreation Guide will be out on August I Oth, we will start registrations on August 17th Maintenance Personnel Activity • Attended Monthly Safety Meetings • Attended First Aid and CPR class • Audiograms for full time employees Park& Facility Projects • Pruned various shrub beds • Irrigation repairs: I mainline 3 lateral breaks • Weeded utility niches along the boulevards on the west side of town • Cleaned and sprayed parking lot at Walters Field • Mowed brush at Chiawana Park Cemetery • Preformed 4 funerals; 4 burials and 2 cremations • Built pergola for meditation gardens • Sprayed growth regulator throughout the Cemetery Special Events • Prepared Wade Park for Water Follies • Delivered utility vehicles for Police and Fire at Wade Park • Set up and tear down for the 0' of July Parade • Set up and tear down for the Fire Works at Gesa Stadium Director • Informed Board of the resignation of Grace Adams, Position#1. • Discussed pool fees • William Grimes, Studio Cascade, discussed with board members their vision for the future of parks and recreation in the city (Table attached).
