Minutes of the prior meeting of July 14 were read and approved on motion of Mike Mathews and
seconded by Edmon Daniels.
STAFF REPORTS
Recreation
Carleen reported that the pools are closed for the season. Pool ticket sales and swim lessons revenues
were up a total of$2,600 over 2008. This year's pool manager and staff did an excellent job.
Recently met with the YMCA to discuss use of the Martin Luther King Center. \Head Start operations at
the King Center have also started up for the school year.
Work has begun on the Cable Bridge Run,with Allison Mathews as the lead. Lampson has confirmed
their sponsorship. Ben Franklin Transit is unable to donate use of their buses and drivers this year to
shuttle runners. Alternative sources are being sought.
A request is in for purchase of a software program for 2010 for registrations,rental,payments, etc.
Chairman Taber introduced Dr. Rose from the Planning Commission. He stopped by and asked if trees
could be planted along the Sacagawea Heritage Trail.Discussion follows as to what can and cannot be
done on Corp of Engineers property and the length of time it takes to get approval. Council member
Francik indicated that it would take some time,as she is involved in other projects. The Park
Comprehensive Planning process is due to begin in the next year or so to update the city's goals and
objectives.Also a complete master plan is in the hopper for Chiawana Park.
Maintenance
Dan reported that everything has been removed from the Memorial Pool basement so the contractor can
begin the remodel.
Several projects were completed last month. The railing has been installed at the Volunteer Park pavilion,
old restrooms at Chiawana Park were prepared for demolition and re-lamped the downtown mini-station,
receiving two PUD rebates in the amount of$9,000.
The Highland Park Football Field Extension went to bid. Council is scheduled to award the bid Tuesday,
September 9.
Projects
Rick discussed the Memorial Pool Project. Bid prices were better than anticipated; the Engineers estimate
of approximately $2.4 million was bid at$1.86 million. The pool is cleaned out and ready for
construction crews. Some discussion on usage and fees followed.

FCID Trail Development
Levee 12-2 Lowering and Trail and Restrooms
Neighborhood Park(Chapel Hill)

Neighborhood Park(Three Rivers Crossing)
Information Systems budget as it pertains for Parks and Recreation operations was discussed;
connectivity and software needs.
