“Big Bro Joe Day”
October 6, 2026
WHEREAS, the Big Bro Joe Foundation (BBJF) was founded by Joe Thornton on October 6, 2021, with a
mission to empower youth through mentorship, leadership development, education, community service, and
life-changing opportunities; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Big Bro Joe Foundation has grown into a community-based nonprofit
organization serving hundreds of youth and families through year-round youth development programs,
educational workshops, leadership opportunities, community service, athletic programming, and family
engagement; and
WHEREAS, the Big Bro Joe Foundation strives to help young people discover their purpose, build
confidence, develop life skills, and become responsible and engaged members of their communities while
providing safe and supportive environments in which youth can grow and thrive; and
WHEREAS, the Foundation's impact is strengthened through the dedication of its youth, families, mentors,
volunteers, educators, businesses, nonprofit organizations, law enforcement, local government, and community
partners who work together to invest in the next generation; and
WHEREAS, October 6 marks the anniversary of the founding of the Big Bro Joe Foundation and provides
an opportunity to recognize its contributions to youth empowerment, leadership, education, service, mentorship,
family engagement, and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, Big Bro Joe Day serves as an annual celebration of youth, service, leadership, and community,
encouraging residents to give back, support young people, volunteer, and make a positive difference in the lives
of others; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Charles Grimm, Mayor of the City of Pasco, Washington, do hereby proclaim
October 6, 2026 as
“Big Bro Joe Day”
in the City of Pasco and encourage residents, businesses, schools, organizations, and community leaders to
recognize this day by celebrating the positive impact of the Big Bro Joe Foundation, supporting young people,
participating in community service, and working together to build a stronger future for the next generation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Official Seal of the City of
Pasco, State of Washington, to be affixed this 5th day of October 2026.
