HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026.09.21 Council Mtg Handout from Jose IniguezJCSt-, In,kyC-L
Mayor and members of the City Council,
My name is Jose Iniguez. lam an award -winning producer and professional artist. Every
year, I help put hundreds of artists and musicians to work throughout Washington State
and beyond.
I am also a Rotarian, and 1 believe deeply in integrity, service, leadership, and above all,
Service Above Setf.
1 have established four scholarship endowments at colleges and universities, including
one right here at Columbia Basin College, helping young people pursue their education.
My commitment to Pasco did not begin with DPDA. In 2022, 1 helped produce what was
reported as the first full symphony concert at the Pasco Farmers Market, bringing more
than 75 musicians and performers into downtown Pasco.
That record of service is whyyourCity Managerand Economic Development Director atthe
time asked me to join the Downtown Pasco Development Authority.
I did not seek this position. I did not ask for an appointment. Your City asked me to
serve. And I said yes.
We were volunteers.
Yet community volunteers were personally named in a lawsuit, and eventually, afterthis
City voted to dissolve its public authority organization, the City of Pasco itself was named
as a defendant alongside them.
That lawsuit was ultimately dismissed by judge.
But a dismissed lawsuit doesn't erase what people experienced along the way.
Once someone's name appears publicly alongside serious accusations, people remember
the accusation. They don't always rememberwhat happened afterward.
Based on what I personally experienced, it is my opinion that much of what happened
ultimately lies at the feet of a member of this Council and his mentor, Mr. David
Cortinas.
People in positions of influence must understand the consequences their words and
actions can have on volunteers.
This is about character.
