“25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001”
September 11, 2026
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, our nation was struck by an enemy that rejected the moral and
political foundations of Western civilization—ordered liberty, the equal dignity of every person, and a
society shaped by faith, reason, and the rule of law; and
WHEREAS, nearly three thousand innocent people were murdered that morning in New York, at
the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania, and countless more lives were permanently altered by loss,
injury, and the long consequences of that day; and
WHEREAS, in the face of deliberate and ideological violence, ordinary Americans answered with
uncommon courage—first responders who ran toward the danger, citizens who aided strangers, and a
free people who refused to yield the inheritance previous generations had defended at great cost; and
WHEREAS, the years that followed tested the resilience of the United States, yet also revealed a
deeper national resolve to protect a civilization that has long been contested by forces determined to
destroy it; and
WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan previously reminded us that “the ultimate determinant in the
struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets, but a test of wills and ideas—a trial
of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish, the ideals to which we are dedicated”;
and
WHEREAS, twenty-five years later we remember the dead, honor those who served, and recognize
that the contest revealed on that day did not begin in 2001 and has not ended—that free societies must
still choose, in every generation, whether they will remain clear-eyed and steadfast in defense of the
civilization entrusted to them; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Charles Grimm, Mayor of the City of Pasco, Washington, on behalf of the
City Council, do hereby recognize September 11, 2026 as a day of solemn remembrance in the City of
Pasco, and call upon our residents to pause in gratitude for those we lost, in honor of those who sacrificed,
and in firm resolve to remain worthy of the liberty, country, and civilization handed down to us.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Official Seal of the City
of Pasco, State of Washington, to be affixed this 8th day of September 2026.
Charles Grimm, Mayor
City of Pasco
