HomeMy WebLinkAboutHPC Meeting Minutes 10-07-2025Cl of HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES City Hall - Council Chambers 'Rdsco 525 North Third Avenue Pasco, Washington TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2025 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER City of Pasco Historic Preservation Commission was call to order by Vice Chair Marilynn Baker. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Marilynn Baker, Malin Bergstrom and Jay Hendler Commissioners Excused: Dan Stafford, Devi Tate Staff Present: CED Deputy Director Craig Raymond, Public Works CIP Manager Ryan Mahaffey and Administrative Assistant II Carmen Patrick APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Baker made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 5, 2025 meeting, passed unanimously. UNFINSHIED BUSINESS • Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Recognition Discussion The commission discussed the process of who will have the final say on what names will be included in the community center renovation. It was agreed to give Ryan Mehaffey the list as is to pass on to the Washington State Department of Archeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP). PUBLIC HEARINGS None WORSHOP Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Renovation and Expansion Ryan Mahaffey put together a presentation overview of the phases of the community center. Now, they are on Phase 1, which is funded. Phase 2 is partially funded, and Phase 3 has no funding at this time. The theme is the overhead of the City which was agreed upon at the previous meeting. The historical part of the center will come in the second phase. OTHER BUSINESS • 100-year Centennial Update No update currently, per Commissioner Bergstrom. Ray Sylvester Visit Mr. Sylvester from Texas came to meet with Marilynn Baker with his two sons. City Manager Harold Stewart, City Clerk Debby Barham, Deputy Clerk Krystel Shanks and AA II Nicole Edwards also met with him. Dieu Donne Sylvester homesteaded 160 acres, much of which became the central business district of Pasco. One of his children was named Ainsworth Sylvester after the town he was born in which was Ainsworth. Many of the streets in Pasco were named for members of the Sylvester family. Each of the children became active and contributing members in Pasco. Page 1 of 2 Mr. Sylvester wrote a check for a donation to the Commission. It was discussed how to cash it as the HPC does not have a checking account. Will be discussed further at the next meeting. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 5:03 pm.
