WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special
day be set aside for the planting of trees; and
WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one
million trees in Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pasco recognizes the importance of trees in creating a sustainable and resilient
urban environment; and
WHEREAS, trees provide numerous environmental benefits by improving air and water quality,
reducing erosion, and providing habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, trees play a vital role in enhancing the beauty, health, and livability of our community;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pete Serrano, Mayor of the City of Pasco, Washington, do hereby proclaim
April 10, 2024 as,
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Official Seal of the City of
Pasco, State of Washington, to be affixed this 10th day of April 2024.
