HomeMy WebLinkAboutVietnamese Heritage Day 4-18-2024Proclamation “Vietnamese Heritage Day” April 18, 2024 WHEREAS, after the fall of Saigon in 1975, thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled their country in fear of the Vietnamese government campaign of retribution and political and religious persecution; and WHEREAS, many of these Vietnamese refugees are now Vietnamese-Americans who have chosen to make Pasco their home and as a result, contribute to the economic and cultural diversity of our community; and WHEREAS, the vast majority of Pasco’s Vietnamese-Americans remember their heritage by celebrating the history, culture, and the Founding Fathers of Vietnam on the tenth day of the third month of the Lunar Calendar and by embracing the yellow flag with three red stripes, also known as the Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom Flag, as the symbol of the Vietnamese-American community; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pete Serrano, Mayor of the City of Pasco, Washington, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2024 as “Vietnamese Heritage Day” in Pasco and encourage all residents to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Vietnamese-Americans heritage and recognize the contributions and sacrifices of thousands of Veterans of the Vietnam War.
