JUNE 2024
The Pasco Code Enforcement Board will
conduct the Determination Hearing on
June 6, 2024 at 7:00p.m.
in Pasco City Council Chambers.
The City of Pasco Code Division strives to gain voluntary compliance through communication, outreach and
education.
Voluntary Compliance Agreements are used to provide up to 90 days for compliance with certain codes and
situations. This may include issues such as landscaping and cases entailing corrective action which is large
scale/high cost, with the understanding the property will be maintained free of any other code violations
during the agreement period.
On May 3, 2024 Inspection Services staff participated in the first joint Tri-Cities Food Truck inspection event.
This inspection event is to provide a single streamlined process to inspect and license food trucks for Pasco,
Richland and Kennewick.
The Pasco Police Department’s tactical training officers provided a two hour refresher training on defensive
tactics. This training, while brief, provides hands on training for Inspection Services field staff in case of an
aggressive encounter. Two Code Officers completed 15 hours each of training on Code Official Safety
Specialist Training, the cost was covered through their positions held on the Washington State Association
of Code Enforcement. Internal staff is conducting ongoing training in weekly meetings on pre-attack
indicators, verbal de-escalation techniques and situational awareness.
Volunteers assisted an elderly homeowner who is currently living in an assisted living facility. They mowed
the overgrown lawn and removed nuisance appliances and other debris abandoned on the property by
other persons.
The house at 715 W Yakima was vacated in December 2022 after a large fire due to an unauthorized
encampment in the rear yard. The house was purchased and restored for occupancy in May 2024.
The rental inspector worked with a long time tenant at an apartment building to correct a pest issue. The
tenant had suspected squirrels were living in the walls of the building near her apartment for the last four
years but it was not verified. Through coordinated efforts, the squirrels were found, live-trapped and
removed from the structure. Management has completed work to secure the exterior of the structure from
further issues.
Code Division staff has been working on an initiative to partner with city staff, local agencies, businesses and
residents to conduct clean up activities and neighborhood block parties. These events are funded through a
grant awarded in 2024 through the CDBG program. The goal is to educate residents on local codes, engage
them in civic activities, connect residents with resources, increase pride in ownership and help those with
specific cleanup needs. The first event is scheduled for Saturday June 8th, 2024 8am-1pm in the
neighborhood surrounding Kurtzman Park.
