The City of Pasco Code Division strives to gain voluntary compliance through communication, outreach and education. Voluntary Compliance Agreements are used to provide up to 90 days for compliance with certain codes and situations. This may include issues such as landscaping and cases entailing corrective action which is large scale/high cost, with the understanding the property will be maintained free of any other code violations during the agreement period. Did you know that Code Offices contact homeless encampments at both private and public locations? The interaction in these situations is much different than with a typical property or business owner. We are continuously working to improve our communication skills and approach to these difficult situations. Last month, staff participated in a one hour training on how to approach and manage problematic behavior during encounters with our homeless population. Staff has also been working to gather additional area resources. Most often a complaint can be resolved through discussion or the violation notice process. However, some residents face difficulty complying with regulations due to extenuating circumstances. To better serve the community, staff works directly with multiple Community Care providers and volunteer chore groups. We are then able to connect agencies to persons suffering from mental illness, homelessness, financial instability, health issues, physical disability etc. Stay up to date with changes and information from Inspection Services (Permits, Building Inspections, Fire Safety & Code Division) by following our Facebook page!
