HomeMy WebLinkAboutDevelopmental Disabilities Awareness Month - March 2023e�� l'C<G�CZ7l%CG'�lQl7 "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month" March 2023 WHEREAS, the month of March has been designated Developmental Disabilities Awareness month by a 1978 Presidential Proclamation; and WHEREAS, more than 83,000 adults and children in Washington have developmental disabilities; and WHEREAS, families and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities deserve recognition for their caring commitment and ongoing support that are essential to an independent and productive life; and WHEREAS, public awareness about developmental disabilities promotes acceptance and understanding, and decreases prejudice and misconception; and WHEREAS, people with developmental disabilities have many skills, talents and abilities to contribute to their neighborhoods and communities; and WHEREAS, the City of Pasco and the greater Tri-cities annually celebrates people with disabilities at the March for Respect, this year being held on Saturday, March 25th in Richland; and WHEREAS, people with developmental disabilities are a vibrant part of our community, improving the quality of life for all of us, and public awareness about the needs of people with developmental disabilities can help Pasco be a more welcoming community; and NOW, THEREFORE, Blanche Barajas, Mayor of the City of Pasco, Washington, do hereby proclaim March 2023 as "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month' .
