Pit Bull Attack
Yesterday around 4 in the afternoon, I went out to feed our dog and rake up some twigs that were in the
grass. Our dog likes to scratch his back on the evergreens along the rear of our lot and when he did, the
3, out of control pit bulls that are kept by the guy in the house behind us tried to attack me and our dog.
The attempted attacks are nothing new and had become so common place and vicious that sometime
back, I finally decided our lives were in danger and went and complained to Pasco Animal control.
Much to my surprise, 1 was told by Animal Control that that was how dogs act and that they would not
do anything about it unless they got into our backyard. I told the Lady at Animal Control that if they got
into our backyard, I would be dead.
But I also talked to the neighbors who share a lot line with the pit bulls, and they were also very
concerned about the dangerous dogs.
Since Animal Control was not willing to take any action, I e-mailed the City and told them about our
problem. They did not respond.
The next time the dogs tried to attack us, I looked up the local statutes regarding dangerous dogs and e-
mailed them once again, reminding them of their own statutes. Again, they did not respond.
I had not seen the pit bulls for a while, and was very relieved, but yesterday they were back in the yard,
and with renewed effort and determination tried to knock the fence down to attack us. I was able to get
our dog away from the fence and we both ran to the safety of our backdoor, but as I did, I noticed they
had refocused their frenzied attack on the horses in Mary's backyard.
Although this has been an ongoing theme in our neighborhood for some time now, their attempted
attack looked much more violent and vicious, and when I got inside of the house, called 911, knowing
that this was no longer a drill. After making the call, I ran to Mary's to warn her about the dogs.
As I ran west down Marie Street, along Mary's north fence line, two of the dogs were already in her
backyard attacking the horses. I banged on her door till Julie, her sister answered and told her the dogs
were attacking the horses.
As I ran back toward our house along the fence line, the attack was in full motion, and when the 3,d pit
bull also jumped the fence to join the frenzy, I ran much faster, knowing full well that it was the worst of
the bunch...and I had no doubt that it was a full-fledged killer!
It is an absolute pity that both Animal Control and the City of Pasco failed to address this long-term
problem in our neighborhood, and that the inevitable attack finally occurred. But please, for the sake of
my wife and I and our dog, as well as the other neighbors that have had to put up with these dangerous,
out of control dogs, put them down, so that the same peace, safety and security that we once
enjoyed ... can finally return to our neighborhood.
