Historic Preservation Officer Jeff Adams October 19, 2022
City of Pasco
525 N Third Ave
2nd Floor
Pasco, Washington 99301
Dear Mr. Adams:
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the following property;
Morning Star Baptist Church
at 631 S Douglas Ave., Pasco
has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places, where it joins other properties
which contribute to the rich cultural heritage of Washington State. The Morning Star
Baptist Church in on the east side of Pasco is historically significant for its direct
association with the history of Black Americans in Pasco and as a building that was
designed to meet the spiritual needs of the local community. Completed in 1957,
Morning Star served as the physical, cultural, and institutional core of the Black
community.
The nomination was part of a multi-pronged effort to document and celebrate the rich
history of Black Americans in Pasco. The nomination and accompanying multiple
property document: "The Black American Experience in Pasco" were funded in part by
an Under-Represented Communities Grant from the National Park Service.
The National Register records the tangible reminders of the history of the United States
and is the official repository for documentation of cultural resources worthy of
preservation.
I am pleased to provide you with this honor, and to commend your support and
stewardship of this significant property. Please do not hesitate to contact Michael
Houser, our National Register Coordinator, at (360) 890-2634 if you have any questions
or comments regarding the National Register listing.
Sincerely,
aZ
/
Allyson Brooks, Ph.D.
